Our Improved Midfield setup

Would love to see Tambling explode this year, kinda like Foley did last year. Anybody know how he is going? (Not SC, wouldn't toch him with a 10-ft pole, saw he had talent and should be a good midfielder soon enough)

hey there! firstly i'm not trolling and secondly i take my hat off to you guys cos wether your wooden spooners or not you always kick our ass !!! i'm just curious to know more about morton and kelvin moore !!! why has'nt moore featured more for you over the years ??? he looked pretty dam good in the nab cup game !!! can he fit in your side or is he just unlucky ???

I like the look of Moore. Last year he was injured for at least half the season, but he showed very good signs then. In his first couple of seasons he was still finding his feet. I think he and Mcguane will compete madly for a half back flank spot in the team. Morton could be a real bonus. Was pretty much a top 10 pick in 2005, but West Coast was going to get him under the father son rule anyway, so they picked him up at pick 35 so they could earn themselves 2 top 10 picks. As an 18 year old, he struggled to find a spot in a strong team who made the 2005 and 2006 grand finals. So for him to play 14 games in such a strong side isn't a bad effort at all and he had injuries over the last couple of seasons too. So we have picked him up when he is about to peak. Dangerous forward and great pick :thumbsu:

Lets not forget the huge rundown of the Irish player in the International rules series as well!
He's got pretty good speed, but i'm not sure how his endurance is because he has only really needed short burst in the back pocket! He might be a really good midfielder if he's got the motor for it!!

When Newman looks like he has speed, it's on the chase without the ball.

Anyone who's played football at a decent level and could run will tell you the same thing: it's a lot easier making some ground when you haven't got the ball than it is getting away when you do have the ball.

Newman chases quite well. Put the ball in his hands and he ambles along running on angles rather than breaking lines, purely because he's smart enough to know there's not many people he could run around and then get away from while carrying the ball.

That's the same reason why Bowden doesn't play midfield anymore. Credit where credit is due, Bowden had enough talent to get away with a lack of natural athleticism and do well elsewhere. To lesser effect, that's exactly what Newman has done.

Kelvin Moore is an injury prone hack. Possibly the worst player on our list. He is too short for a KP role, not skilled, agile or tough enough to play as an inside or outside midfielder and pretty much restricted to playing off a half back flank. And considering we have maybe 10-15 guys who can play this role better, he really serves the club no purpose.

If he is on our list at the end of this year I would be extremely suprised.

Ohh and Rayzorwire, I can think of many instances of Newman running through the centre and kicking long goals. I think the bowden comparison is unfair to both of them because firstly newman is quicker, secondly bowden has a bigger tank, thirdly bowden is more evasive and finally where bowden is strong but not entirely courageous, newman is pretty wirey but very tough.

classic case of a player played out of position. Why? dont know, maybe to get his defensive skills up. But for one out of left field. Wouldnt mind seeing this kid on a wing. ;)

Really? Many instances? In his 14 goal career? Or was this in vivid Premiership dreams you had? ;)

Yes, he's kicked goals on the run, but it's not like he's blazed his way through the centre taking bounces and converted at the end of it. Most of those 14 goals are from set shots and from creeping to just outside the 50 and punching it through off a few steps.

'Seen him do it a couple of times in his career' is a bizarre basis for "many instances."

None of which is relevant to them actually breaking lines in games.

It's not a slight on them as players, they're just not great athletes. All teams need a balance of athletes and pure footballers.
