I know a Frankston player and they were pissing themselves that they won. Said Richmond players were obviously talented but they were so small, they couldn't believe it, said they looked like an age grade side.

Given the majority of our VFL side are first and second year player (18-20 year olds) it's not exactly surprising that they are lacking in size. Also doesn't help that even with young AFL listed players we go and recruit young VFL players to rather that putting more experienced and bigger bodies to help our young AFL listed players.

I know that watching the warm up, close to the action in last years final it was painfully obvious.
You had North who are obviously much older and seasoned but with that much bigger too, then there was us.
Exactly how the game played out too, when it was out and running we were all over them and then when it slowed down they killed us in close.

We are small. I looked at the 2012 team photo and what was noticeable was that Cotch had a lot bigger shoulders and thighs, he was also playing gun football. Two things have changed since then I'd suggest the two are related.

The Frankston side we went against (approx. a fortnight ago IIRC), was younger and less experienced than our VFL team. On a wet day, the difference in 'hardness' around the ball was stark

Hawthorn list has heaps of squids but it never stopped them from winning all those flags.

We're playing shit footy and it has nothing to do with lifting weights imo.

It's lack of heart, lack of brain and lack of basic skill.

Completely concur with the op , the constant in ea losing final was being smashed in the contest with our midget midfield. In absence of securing a decent sized mid we should have kept Thomas for another year who had a sound record when required but that would take foresight which is non existent amongst our amateur recruiting division

Yep we are too small. Geelong and North continue to smash us year after year. Cotchin is a perfect example of where our club is with work ethic as when he came over from the Knights he was ripped for a young kid. Now he's skinnier droopy and weak looking. No core strength either. Opposition just brush him off easily. Cotchin is just one of many examples. Have a look at patracca he's huge for basically a first year player. Our fitness is a major concern with many other issues.

The previous guy who most of us didn't rate had the list a lot bigger bodied.

Burge needs to be shown the door and this list needs to see the inside of a weight room.
Tell us something we dont know bud.
But lets talk mids it is not just about size it is about type. we have so many blokes who are under 6ft and they all probably have great height to weight ratios for afl. The trouble is our mids are mostly smalls and the roles they perform dont go with the body shape.
At least a 1/4 of our list would be made up of small players. I would guess Another 1/2 of the list while being taller are very much what you would call small framed.
Again this is something some of us have gone on about for years.

Bunch of f***ing beanpoles. Doesn't help when they're as soft as butter as well.
I'd like to see some more stocky types in the mids but there's a place for everybody in our game, from Aaron Sandilands to Caleb Daniel.

Just another obvious flaw in our list development to go along with our recruiting, tackling, etc that seems so easy to fix but nothing gets done.

Maybe that's why we've got a decent record against them in recent times. We seem to lose when other teams set out to pressure and out-muscle us around the contest

Not that Carlton are the poster child for recruiting, but I really get the impression that Richmond are almost conned into recruiting based on another team beating up a player in the hope that a player they like gets through to their selection. Hawthorn did it with Tambling and I am pretty sure the Dockers did it with Conca.
Lambert and co are reasonable picks, but shows a lack of directions in the recruiting department. As I said, until this year, Carlton has been looking for a diamond in the rough only to unearth quartz and have had more shocking picks than most.
