We are going to have a midfield of Hill, Barlow, Morabito, Fyfe and Pitt in the years to come. Assuming all can either recover from injury fully and stay fit would you not back them in against any up and comers in the league? Chuck in Chrichton, Michie and the fact that Mundy is still only 25 and we are going places.

The key positions on the other hand.....

You cant believe our midfield is as good as Collingwood? We have probably our best ever midfield this year if all players recover from the injuries but Collingwood is still a lot better than us. In the future we have the chance to have the best midfield though.

It is a lot better than Essendons though.

Lower has shown more than a lot of our young midfielders. Has the Barlow vein, not quite same level though. Will be interesting when Barlow gets back so Mundy can play his preferred unaccountable game and have Palmer/Lower/Hill running well.

I thought he had a decent game on the weekend. He made some critical mistakes, however he also did a lot more work and was involved in quite a few scoring plays. Still seems undecisive too often.

I still have faith that he can be a solid contributer to our team.

Palmer just needs confidence, which he seems to be building. 'Course he may be traded before we see him at his peak. If Lower can build on what he's shown so far we won't necessarily miss Palmer too much if Barlow, Mundy and Hill are fit.

Palmer seems to watch the ball a little bit sometimes too and get passed rather easily (which could be pace/knee or someone with his mind not entirely on the game in front of him). I'd be happier if we lost Ibbo or Suban to GWS though. Need all the true mids you can get these days.

Palmer looked pretty good this weekend, showed a bit of desperation on a few occasions. Hopefully he comes good in the weeks to come.

I think most posters are of the opinion he's already going to GWS and therefore exclude him from talks about future midfields.

If he stays though, and I hope he does, he will become an important part of the midfield rotation.

His disposal is poor, and he regularly slows us down in transition.

Weak links stand out. Pitt will retain his spot before Palmer when the likes of Barlow and Mzungu push for their spots.

His games have all gotten slightly better than the last - his confidence may be returning

Palmer or no Palmer our midfield future is extremely bright. The same could not be said about one of either Hill or Fyfe and whether or not the future would be as bright without them

Pitt also looks extremely good. Is very poised and reacts well in high-pressure situations.

Palmer is now, has been, and will always be (for as long as he plays for us) one of the top three or four mids at our club.

He won the rising star. As a midfielder. He is now, and will be for any team he plays for in the next ten years, a midfield key.

I really rated Mrs this week. he looked like he was playing for pav. Still in the best 22 even if it is Sub. wil be tough in a few weeks time a s a selector. off topic, but i wonder when Jack will get a run?

WRT him leaving to GWS, Kay Sera sera. hope he doesnt but that is AFL 2011. Wont begrudge him or boo him if he leaves.

I don't hate Palmer, and I thought he was good on the weekend, but the fact remains with a fully fit line up, he might struggle to fit into the 22.

Barlow, Mora and Ibbo would all be considered ahead of him, with a similar story for Hayden and Mzungu as spots in the 22. Then you have the likelihood that Pitt and Crichton could go past him this year. Michie and Mellington being remote possibilities also.

Nevertheless, he's in the best 22 now, and I hope he continues improving and performing.

based on what palmer is capable of doing, he should be easily in our best 22, but based on his current form, clay is right, a fully fit team palmer will struggle to get games.

I don't think Pav will ever really be a permanent forward. He can just basically do whatever he likes.

But in saying that with Barlow (and Morabito next year) I see him spending less time in the midfield.
