When and how will we play this kids? We can’t fit in what we have now
There will come a point where kids must be played. Our older guys cant play on forever.

Looking forward to seeing Mackay named as a 40 year old.....and still looks like a 14 year old boy.....

Maybe after round 12 next year when we've got a caretaker coach (unless it's Campo again).

No, I genuinely think it was instructed.

When we decided to play this slow it down, contest, low scoring game to try to week wins out of an old bad list, we went towards it.

I think you may be correct......

We bring the ball in to our forwards mostly on the flanks then appear to bomb it long to somewhere between the boundry and the goal square so then the opposition either fist it over the line or we allow it over the line (not a point a point is a lost possession) this then enables us to lock it into our forward fifty for lots of "repeat entries" and hopefully eventually get a goal and at the same time starve the opposition of their own scoring oppotunities as its kept up our end for long periods. The only time we seem to hit a target inside fifty is when we either turn the ball over somewhere in the centre square and rebound it back through the middle or if we find someone wide open in the middle who can quickly deliver forward noting that we actually need to have a forward to kick it to.

Our midfield has operated the same for years under Campo, we throw numbers at the contest, we get sucked in, we either win it and bomb it, or the oppo clear it easily due to having free players waiting. Even in 2017, whenever we are not 100% focused we generally lose. Whenever we don't dominate CP or Clearances against good opposition, we generally lose.

Key games in 2017 we lost against well coached sides because of this.

When it isn't easy, we can't win.

Now we have less speed, players in worse form, no rebound speed into forward half and no contested marking (no Cameron and McGovern), Betts is slower too.

Edit:
Now we can't as easily paper over the cracks with the individual form of players, and we didn't replace the speed we lost. This midfield structure is a handicap, and in the 2017 Grandfinal that was clearly shown, we won lots of midfield ball when we had an out number, but when moving it on we failed because Richmond eliminated all outlets and used speed to destroy us.

Need to remember we made the GF in 2017 on the back of a strong HB line. Not midfield.

Now Laird is in a funk, and held more accountable and Smithers is still coming back from a knee injury so is inconsistent.

And Lynch has had a horrible year. He was just as important as these three in terms of movement from HB as that connector.

In 2017 these three were our genuine elite match winning players.

These three guys drop in quality and/or the way oppo teams defend against them has exposed oir midfield quite a bit.

The quicker movement from HB allowed oir forwards to operate in more space. Eddie and Tex were two years younger.

We still struggled defensively between the arcs, albeit some more forward pressure. But our midfield was always cut apart. We were just better offensivley.

And got beaten GF by a team playing a similar game style. But better on that day on their home deck.

Fair point.

First we need a club with two diserable picks. That club then needs to want our lower pick.

I personally cant see it happening. But if it could happen it is worth exploring.

Having said that Port traded pick 9 for the two picks they used in SPP and Marshall. Sydney picked Florent with that pick. Clear winners in that trade.

GWS have two and they likely need a top 3-5 pick to get their academy player.

GWS is really the only team to trade picks with as they have 2 first rounders.
If we do that trade I think they will use pick 3 on a good player and then use 2nd & 3rd round picks to make up the points to get Tom Green after someone has nominated him.
