Good thread.

Personally i'm not sure what we need most but we do need A:

-Ruckman.

-Out side mid(like Hill/Polec).

-Classy HFF(Fyte).

I do believe we need a good KPD as im not sure if mcguane, rance and astbury are good enough and we have others playing 2's. May help once we dont let the ball come in so easy so jury still out with them.

The same goes with fowards we have a hole heap of them and they need to be given the time to show something, dont want to have to many.

1) A Forward who can play High between 40 and 60 metres out from Goal. Looking for a key forward probably about the 194cm mark. Someone with agility and can take a grab.

2) A Big defender between 193 and 196cm tall who can play at CHB and take the monster forwards.

3) Midfielders Midfielders Midfielders.

4) A ruckman but this should be our last priority as we are a way off challenging and we can always trade for one later.

From other clubs: we should be targetting high quality players Tom Scully from Melbourne (If his knees are ok), Maverick Weller from Gold Coast is a very nice player who would also add to our midfield. Jackson Trengove from Port Adelaide who could play a key defensive post and Shaun McKernan from Adelaide. These would be the only players from other clubs that I would bother chasing. Scully, Trengove and McKernan are all out of contract. Weller is not out of contract but he'd be a great get IMHO.

No1 for me is more midfield depth.

I reckon that some of the top teams (Collingwood, Sydney, Saints) bought a mature ruck when they were ready to contest the premiership. By then you sacrifice a late first round draft pick, not a low one and the team is ready to go.

We need to give the rucks and KPD's more time to grow and improve. We should have gone down the talls route 2-3 years earlier (actually 10 but who's counting). Rucks often don't become decent until after 25, so we wait as far as I am concerned. I'm worried about down back. But we have plenty of talented youngsters, and they need a few years to grow into the role.

The coaches should know what's the go. But I'd definitely wait on the ruck for now. We don't need to trade for one until we are ready to win the whole show.

We need an elite dominating CHF and CHB

Kudos, we need a spine - we have a great full forward, just need a great CHF (Griffiths hopefully), CHB, and full back. I think we have plenty of midfielders and defensive forward/backs to fill the rest of the holes.

I'm not that worried about a ruckman, Hawthorn seem to do alright without a genuine ruckman.

If Tyrone Vickery doesn't progress should he be tried in defense ?

But he is progressing. 3rd year ruckman who has jumped a long way from last season and can now contribute on the ground either on the ball or up forward against bigger, more experienced guys.

Next season he'll be well and truly holding his own in both positions, and by 2013 he'll be a genuine number 1 ruckman.

After that he'll continue to improve.

Trust me people, the ruck position is taken care of for a long time.

Hopefully by the end of 2011 we will have seen enough from Post, Griffiths, Grimes, Gourdis, Astbury and Rance to know that KP's are also locked in, allowing us to head for 'best available' - most likely more mids.

I wish i shared your optimism that those positions will be 'locked in' :(

come on dude. The tigers will be the first club to unearth, not 1, not 2, not 3 not even 5, but a massive 6 KPPS over a 3 year stretch. I mean, take a look at the premiers, they have scrounged and fossicked for the best part of the last 5 years to 7 years, to find 2, maybe 3 max and that includes the father son bonus of Travis. LMAO...sheeesh...I know we can hope and dream, but there are some real candidates on here for Delusionsville. ;)

I'll be happy to lock down one KPP out of that bunch, hopefully big Griff as CHF.

Sorry, I said "hopefully ... we will have seen enough ..." - if I thought we had the KP's taken care of already then I would have said something along the lines of, "We have the KP's taken care of already".

Interestingly though the premiers got three of their four KPs in the winning grand final team all from the one draft (2006: FB - Nathan Brown, CHB - Ben Reid, FF - Chris Dawes), plus the FS bonus of Trav 2 years earlier. Wow, 3 premiership KP's in 1 year Cogga, and a full goal to goal line in 3 years.

Probably not so delusional to hold some hope that our remaining three 'holes' could be filled with guys on our list that we've scrounged and fossicked for over the past four drafts.

How about 200 cm?

versatile hard at it players with skill both sides of body regardless of size is wat we need we can trade for a established ruckman or key position down the track if ours dont cut it

:rolleyes:Sadly, think many of you are discounting the fact that Griff has been sidelined with injury for 70-80% of his time at Punt Road and was similarly out of action for a fair whack of his TAC Cup days.
We're placing an awful lot of hope in a guy who has shown to be injury-prone and misses more often than not!
This guy could be another Mark Coughlan, Mark Dragicievic or Mark Merenda for all we know!
Think we all just escape the hype and let him get back on the park!

He's got a ways to go before he's another Gumbleton, Goldy. I'm still excited about the Grifff.
