before this century, I have no memory of anything. I was too young. So starting from:

02/03 we made the top 4/6 and even as an 8 year old I knew we had no chance. To be fair we were not a dominate team. I don't remember much though.

05/06 comes. We finish top in 05 and we could not capitalize. I was at the Crows shed that day vs West Coast and for some reason, I couldn't see us in a granny. I couldn't imagine our spud forward line standing there on GF day. I had no belief what so ever.

07-09. We were never going to make top 4. Craig didn't change the exposed game plan (those over handballs) and we were not going up.

2012 comes and it looks like a new era. No Roo, Goodwin, Birdman, Edwards, Bassett. Our players we hoped for started blossoming. In the prelim with 5 minutes to go, I also had 0 belief that we were going to take out the Hawks.

2013 is here and the signs are here. The nab cup was pathetic and it has carried over in round 1. We should be good enough to beat the bombers.

Why do we have this shitty on field culture where we fall short in every single regard? Yes I know it is round 1, but it doesn't look like we will be gaining a mentality of the Geelongs, Collingwoods, etc.

Why is it that we have this on field culture?

Its the feeling of 2011 all over again....
Dont know why, but yes, seems we have the mentality of we're here to hopefully make up the numbers in the finals.
Maybe we over-achieved last year to impress our new coach! Surprised the other teams that under-estimated us? To be honest we have a lot of 'average' regular players.
Tell me, SA people, is it from the fishbowl of SA... Crows v Power.. as long as we do better than them??

Just because of your negative thoughts doesn't mean that we weren't a real shot at a grand final. We were extremely close to a flag in both 2005/2006.

Never going to make top 4? In 2008 we were sitting in the top 4 in the last round before St. Kilda beat Essendon by 120 points to steal the 4th position from us (we finished on equal points/ almost equal percentage). 2009 we missed top 4 by one game (had 2 games decided by less than 4 points). We were a real chance in two of the three years you said 'we were never going to make top 4' in....

You didn't believe when Johncock kicked that goal that we were a chance?

You compare us to Collingwoods culture? We are very similar to Collingwood. The ball bounces a little different in that 2010 first grand final for Stephen Milne and they have the same number of grand finals wins as us.... The idea of this game is to finish in the top 4 and you are a shot at a flag. You need some luck to go with you.

Our culture is fine. Since 2002 our club has been able to make 4 preliminary finals and make the finals 8 out of 11 years. We need to keep aiming for top 4 as realistically thats the only spot to win a flag from.

Why is it that we have this on field culture?

Much of the disappointment from the naughties not so much lies with a so called on field culture. Inflexible game plans and a resistance to make changes to match ups was more of an issue.

Sometimes teams have an off day and there are on field issues.

Other times we have been out coached.

Sometimes there are injury issues.

Most often the better side wins on the day. Our Prelim loss last year cannot be put down to onfield attitudes.

I hear Port supporting work colleagues sprout this sort of thing all the time. An attempt to try to prove the Crows have no "culture" as a result of being a "manufactured" club. People say it often enough to believe it. And Rucci perpetuates this.

The solution to this is to make the contest, support your team mate and make good decisions.

I'm more cut up about the fact we didn't play the way we played, and we've somewhat succumbed to the off-season rabble of our front offices...

Yesterday was a chance to prove that the playing group could defy the idiocy of our office men who f*cked up and rebuild our image... But we faltered.

Not saying we can't amend in the next few rounds, but it would've been nice to win it...
