He has been an absolute champion. I hope he somehow finds out about this thread and realises that he has been a great servent and a favourite player of ours, and we still wish his testimonial was going ahead, just at a better place.

Well I want him to know he is appreciated, even if the Testimonial was cancelled.

I can do it, if you guys want me to - you have until Tuesday the 22nd! =]

Were you in the Addy on Thursday in the story about Ricco ?
Nah, that wasn't me, I have school, so I can never make it in time for actual training. We usually get there just as it finishes, then we hang around and talk to the players when they leave.

Another memory was his run around the Southern Stand wing in the dying moments of the '94 prelim against the Roos. Wasn't as special as the other two, but the roar of the crowd was almost the same volume. Man, that was a great game :)

Thanks for the memories Ricca :)
I still rate the 94 Prelim as the best game I have ever witnessed and you are quite right - the roar when Ricco got the ball and set off was absolutely deafening. It is something I will never forget. I also recall that Paul Couch couldn't raise a gallop as a North player easily went around him, but as soon as Ricco got it, Couch immediately sprinted about 30 metres to make position...

Thanks Ricco, for your great service to the club.

Okay - here goes.

It was the day Gazza decided to play again and everyone headed to Princes Park early to watch him.

There was a youngster flying down the wing, bouncing the ball, and sailed through a beautiful goal from 50 metres on the left foot. Had everyone reaching for their record to see who he was.

He's been my favourite ever since.

Would have gone to the testimonial but had no one to go with as we have already shelled out for the B&F.

Mum's a huge Riccardi fan. She cried when he kicked that goal against the Blues. She even stood up and cheered when he kicked one once then forgot that the Dome seats go up by themselves and landed on her arse. Funny stuff.
Gunna miss the last pure champion at the club from the 90's, he always knew what to do with it, and you never cringed when he was holding the ball, unlike some of the other boys.
Best of luck with your future Peter, you have truly given so many Cats fans so many good memories when there has been so few.

Bye Ricco, you were the only one left in my memories from when I was a kid.

I loved watching you play, you were a true champion. We will miss you dearly. :(

By Ricco! You have been awesome for the club over all these years and I will miss you sorely; will never forget your last two goals! :)

Sorry to see Riccardi go, although the time is obviously right - he always seem to step up for games against West Coast and his battles for supremacy with Peter Matera were a sight to see.

The end of an era. For myself, like many others, he was the last of the many champions of the club were in their prime as I grew up and became attached to the club.

I agree with the above magic moments. That Lappin 50m was directly in front of me, and I think it was Rooke's debut game. I was watching that game just last week, Lappin rolled about 7 times. Ricco - amazing. The most amazing final quarter I've ever seen, capped off by a fantastic player, clubman and, most importantly, person.

Also, I have a clip on my computer of a goal from a 70m torp to the city end in a 12 goal win against West Coast around 2001 I think, at Skilled. I wish more of our players now would kick it long like he did.

Started off as a Ferrari, finished as a Rolls-Royce.

Thanks, Ricco, and best wishes.

Thanks for supporting this guys. When I started this I was hoping i would get a few responses, but this is amazing!

While I was growing up, whenever I heard the word 'Geelong' I always thought of Ablett Snr, Hocking, Ben Graham and Riccardi. Being only 17 years old now, I cannot remember much about footy pre-2000 as I didnt follow it very seriously back then but I always remembered those 4 players. Cult figures, and its a shame to see the last one go.

Ricco, thanks for being such a fantastic player for Geelong - you'll really be missed. Thanks for the memories and good luck in the future.

I've been meaning to most my favorite Ricco moment for a few days now...and now he's retiring. At least he should get a lap of honour around KP where fans can give him the cheer and send off he deserves.
There was a game about 2 years ago I think, against Essendon at TD and Ricco had the ball near the top of the 50, maybe just a little bit out. He speared a pass to a cats player just at the top of the goal square. The ball looked like it travelled past about 4 bombers at head height the whole way, but it was just so perfect, that none of them could get near it. The more I remember it, the better it gets...by the time i am 50, it will be "75 metres out, swinging this way and that, bombers tripping over trying to get to it" :) But that's how I remember it...it was great.

You're a gun Ricco.

Or if Brayshaw ws commentating:
"The Dukes of Bradley, Fletcher and co couldnt reach that Gary!"
"No they couldnt JimBob"
"On fire today gary!"

They annoy me sometimes.

Spot on mate. Kinda weird - I turn 18 the year Ricco hangs up the boots, its like his departure marks the end of my footballing childhood. As Rohan Connolly said, both his departure and his career were oh so Geelong - the only Geelong we've ever known.

An absolute champion and fantastic bloke. I couldn't pick out one moment because he had so many over a brilliant career. I remember more what he brang to the football club and to myself and the thousands of Geelong fans over the journey.

When he first started i remember the blistering pace and those famous dashes down the wings finishing with a pin point pass or a goal on his trusty left foot. i remember the battles with peter matera when we played the weagles and how much i looked forward to going and watching that contest. As time went by, i remember the classic goals when he would sell candy to many an opponent and then drill the impossible from the boundary.

But most of all i remember the joy that he gave me as a kid when i went to watch the cats train and he would always sign my guersney every year and take the time to have a chat.

A true gentleman and geelong born and bred through and through.

It is unfortunate that Ricco did not get to 300 games as it would have been a fitting end to a brilliant career, but playing 15 years at one club and leaving the game with so many tributes says all that needs to be said. Thanks for the memories, good luck for the future!!! :thumbsu: :thumbsu: :thumbsu:

luved the run down the wing at the 94 preliminary final. still the loudest thing i have heard probably even more than when ablett took the mark.
also a game at geelong in the same year, als against north melbourne where he had a great game. became a favourite after that game
