Our perceived 'poor form'

So the consensus then is that while we are still winning we're playing good football? Just not so pretty to watch?

I think the timing issue is paramount to building a side set to peak at the pointy end of the season.
I choose to believe the percentages as an indicator of form. Blowouts are part of the game and (as mentioned in posts above) are a result of teams blasting out into the game in the first quarter and then running out of steam in the 4th. This shows that the tactic doesn't work against us (or hasn't yet).

I think that what we're watching is better described as different football rather than good or bad, and to beat a dead horse, it's working.

7-0 and top of the ladder tells the story.:)

Bottom line is we are still absorbing the best the opposition has had to throw at us so far this year, and while we aren't destroying teams week in week out yet, the pressure on us this year is far greater than last.

I think that's the funny thing. It seems Hawthorn and the Dogs are playing flat out while we look like we're toying with our opponents at times, yet we are still on top of the ladder.

Heaven help the rest of the league when we start hitting our straps. Hopefully that'll be in a fortnight. :thumbsu:

Like a well fed cat who has caught a mouse. Didn't really need to catch it but did anyway to prove it still has what it takes.

That is how Geelong are travelling at the moment.

Come the second half of the season I suspect we will see the Cats in full flight, until then, let us enjoy the fact that Geelong is still managing to win despite not playing to 100%.

If that is all people have to talk about with regards to Geelong, the club is travelling well. :thumbsu:

Am glad we're winning and looking forward to Otto and Egan getting back in and things clicking a bit better as the season progresses. Don't for a minute agree that we've been toying with anyone though. Sydney and Freo especially thoroughly outplayed us and really had us on the ropes at times.

Freo yes, but Sydney? We were in front pretty much that entire match. Not sure how they thoroughly outplayed us at all.

You guys are playing 'patchy footy' and are still winning.
Imagine when you string it together. 2007 all over again.

Yeah, fair call. We weren't thoroughly outplayed by Sydney, but we certainly weren't toying with them in the second and third quarters. I was pretty glad I had the brown undies on for large portions of that match. Final score didn't reflect just how tight that was.

I have a theory. I have speculated all year that we are now the 'benchmark' of the competition and along with that each team comes out each week with further motivation to knock off the 'top side' and show they have something to prove.

I don't believe we've played that badly. The teams we have played have really come out to play this year putting enormous pressure on our lads and we've coped well with 6-0 thus far. This extra pressure is going to affect the boys' disposal and decision-making obviously and I think it's the prime factor rather than just bad form.

I only hope IF we do make the Grand Final and win, that you will concede we deserved everything and don't make excuses. Because from what I've read so far, it sounds like if we do win there will be tears and tantrums.

Nah, not really.

Personally, I'm not even thinking about the finals, let alone the Grand Final. Or the round 17 game against you guys. Or the round 16 game against the Dogs (the one that everyone's forgotten about).

All I'm worried about right now is the first quarter against Richmond. The one week at a time philosophy seemed to work ok last season, be foolish to change it.

Besides, the round 17 match won't mean much if we're 9-7 or something. Nothing is certain.

Shows how much fear you guys have coming in here spewing shit.
What's it like to blatantly cheat and still fall short in September?
