Must be some good reasons that Spangher and Jackson (3.14 secs for 20 m but I can't find the link) were overlooked and Raso was drafted.

I think you would have to ask your recruiting manager about that. Both those guys were bottom age last year (like Raso) and reached higher honours. Apparantly Jackson is just really slow and Spangher abit up and down. Raso had alot more unknown which could be good or bad.

Most of the heights and weights are those recorded at draft camp but some I am yet to update. Rischbeith and Elliot need to be done, just take of 2.5cm for them, some of the brisbane boys you can do the same.

In my comments on players you will find a lot of negatives. This is basically because I approach it along the lines of they can all play football so what part of their game is deficient then from that I look at evaluating the likelyhood of a coach being able to erradicate the problem

Thanks for those profiles. Very informative. I think you should post them in their own thread (ie not sticky), they will get more notice there. Everyone just thinks this thread is for the phantom draft.

You are probably right but that will do for now. I wasn't going to post them yet as they still have a lot of work to be done on them. Was watching young Lyons today and I like what I see, as you can tell some players have had a lot of time spent on them and others still need to be studied.

Might be Spangher.

If it is Spangher it is worth noting that he was rushed back into Eastern's final side despite being injured and clearly lacking match fitness.

The Draft Camp is often not a level playing field. Some of the NT boys are in the middle of preseason, some of the invitees have been training specifically for the camp for a month, others are sore from injuries they picked up in the week or two before the camp.

That said I'd agree that Spangher has no acceleration which is probably the key ingrediant in a fullback. Basically leaves him out at CHB where he doesn't have to make as many standing starts.

Draft camp is not the perfect playing field and that is why results need to be taken in context. Some of the players have not player for 4 weeks and are nice and fresh and should have been able to work on their sprints or time trials. Others play a game the week before and front up with all the sore spots that one has at the end of the season.

In the perfect world the draft camp should be held this weekend and the clubs be provided with the information tomorrow, however at the moment it takes a couple of weeks to get the data out to the clubs and there are also school exams to be considered.

To the 16 players on this Phantom Draft thread I will be doing the Rookie Draft to give missionimpossible a rest.
As lists haven't been fully finalised as yet we can either do the PSD with only the current official delistings eligible or we can skip the PSD and get straight into the Rookie draft with all players not drafted and born between 1/1/83 to 31/12/87 eligible.
I will try to PM everyone but if you haven't received a PM by later tonight then just send me a list of 10 rookies and any PSD picks that you may have.I will then put them up on this thread.

It lloks like a pretty ordinary draft for freo, judging by mission's profiles. Any justification/rationale wiz9?

56. Bulldogs - James Wall - 198/82 (calder) – Right foot – Draft camp
Pleased to see the kid picked despite going to a ******** school.

57. Port Adelaide – Lucas Markovic - 191/81 (Eastern Ranges) – state screening - strong overhead – has a big vertical leap and can leap straight up into the air at the end of a lead (a trait which Gary Ablett and Roger Luders had) which will enable him to protect the ball from defenders more as well as making it harder for him to be pushed under the ball. He kicked a couple of bags of goals to end the season before badly dislocating his ankle in the first game of the finals series which will be interesting how much it has mended by the time draft camp gets here, obviously not enough to do the tests. Played a lot of the year in ruck before being tried as a key forward later in the season and this is when people began to notice him. Even earlier in the year his marking ability stood out. He does not do much at ground level and will need to improve that part of his game. The only player in this draft who is capable of becoming a 100 goal full forward. The injury could see him slide down the list. TAC 9.2 kicks, 2.9 handballs, 12.1 disposals, 4.5 marks 1.1 goals
One Carlton supporter on one of the forums has this kid as a cheap get without Spangher's hype.It would please him if he gets picked up but not with pick 52 or in the fourth round.I hope he gets to Carlton as a rookie just for his sanity.

71. Port Adelaide – Brad Kelleher - 188/83 (Eastern) – Right foot – Draft Camp – XXX for 20m confirmed he has the pace for AFL football. Kicking is very accurate and better than most AFL footballers as well as being able to convert set shots on goal from outside 50m. U 18 carnival he played 2 games and had 4.5 possessions per game. Gave Mitch Clark a bath at the championships because of his greater pace and he is good at the contested ball. He should be looking to be a forward but more likely to succeed as a small key defender. Mobile at ground level. Not afraid to back into traffic. TAC 9.6 kicks, 5.3 handballs, 14.9 disposals, 5.1 marks, 3.0 goals, 0.7 hitouts. FB
Why so low? It sounds like he's a similar size to Fev with pace and a good kick, but the difference is kid can be moved to the backline and may chase. ;)

It was a toss up between him and stanley at 44. Never Expected to be able to get kelleher as I was hoping Markovic would still be there at 57 but never expected Kelleher to be ther at the last pick

Without looking up my rankings I have Obst at 13, Stanley at 30, Markovis at 9, Adams at 20 and Kelleher at 31.

So yes I think I got a lot of bargains, however I think everyone thinks they did well.

Freo got Dowler at 10 (if his hip heals that will be a bargain), Elliott 26 I dont rate him but many do, Hurley 42 is a bottom age with more speed than I thought and could be pushing high up for next years draft.

Bring on the 2006 draft because this one may go down as one of the worst.

How come 79Vintage hasn't been on to discuss his picks? :thumbsd:

I don't know anything about Pendlebury other than he snapped a nice goal in the Grand Final.Another 188 cm player who was described on this thread as a front runner doesn't appeal and if the Blues go tall at pick four I hope Higgins then lasts to 20.

Who in the AFL does Higgins play like?

67: Richmond - Michael West - 195/85 (Redlands QLD) – UNSEEN - Right foot – Draft camp - kicked 13 goals in his one and only TAC cup game but proceeded to hurt is knee and had his 2nd knee reconstruction in 2 years.

Mission, small detail. This was only West's first knee reco - he had previously had an arthroscope, but I couldn't tell you if it's the same knee.

I havent seen much of him at all so dont take this as gospel but he sounds similar to Stanton. However Higgins kicking is better but he isnt quite as quick as Stanton.

I don't rate Stanton despite his finishing third in their B and F and I hope he turns out better than Brent, who Bentick got past using a football brain rather than athleticism.

The fact he's bottom age with good stats appeals and for Phat to be upset if the Cats overlooked him sounds good to me.

How did he go in the championships? If he played.

Stanton is very outside, I am not sure that Higgins is that much of a receiver. The biggest problem with Stanton is his kicking. It is shocking. Especially for an outside player. Having said that, I would take Stanton at pick 13 (knowing what I do now).

Different knee. The first op was just a cleanup. No structural damage.

Stanton's kicking is much improved. He's still no Dal Santo, but he's not a crap kick anymore, probably just as many players with worse kicks than him than there are better kicks.
And I'm not sure if the Bentick comment was hinting that Bentick is a better player than Stanton.....but that would be a ludicrous thing to say if it was. 3rd in the B&F in a better team can't be compared to Bentick's year.

shocking? that is over the top.

anyone who watched him fairly closely this year wouldnt say his kicking was 'shocking'.
