IIRC brisbane and sydney get 3 zone selections prior to the draft starting so the last couple of picks are actually selected first.

Everything in place now for the start except for Hawthorn.I'll give LukeHodge15 until 8pm and then call in a replacement.

They can but irel and me are ready to go on all 3 pre-draft selections unless they end up in the PSD.That's why I'm waiting on Hawthorn.To all people involved thanks for your time and efforts.Also irel has decided because of only 3 picks in the PSD to take up his Pick 55 in the main draft instead of passing.He has taken Hayden Kiel (Southport).

What happened to the draft and the cap making the competition equal?

This rule may force non-Queensland and non-NSW clubs to draft players from these states, but looking at the success Brisbane has had with their local rookies.It appears to give them an advantage in recruiting players that may develop on rookie lists with better coaching, but aren't good enough to get drafted in November.

This is why I queried it.I've given permission to draft him because of that info.LukeHodge15 has made contact and is currently doing his picks and then we're away.

Yes 79V made the point that Carlton should have 2 picks but was rejected. I would have picked Jonathon Simpkin, who will be 18 by the required date.

cypher you are getting ahead of yourself and all steamed up because of your prejudiced view that Brisbane is getting unnecessary benefits. If you really are open minded you would see that in actual fact it is a constraint and I wish as a Brisbane supporter that the Lions do not use the system and expand their Rookie Drafting to Australia wide. They only do it to appease the AFL and as development incentive for local kids and Local Clubs that get financial benefits when the kids are picked up as rookies.
Historically Brisbane has hardly benefited from the system. Other than Drummond last year there has not been one player that has stood out as a benefit to the Lions because of the system. Drummond was open to other clubs to be picked up in the National Draft and PSD for four years and no one bothered.
Unlike your club that has benefited enormously from the rookie system Brisbane has been constrained because it chooses to pick leftover duds from Qld and not search for good talent Australia wide. It is other clubs that benefit from Brisbane's policy of sticking to locals as rookies.
IMO we should pick the best available and not the QLD crumbs that no one wants. If Mills falls through for Brisbane to rookie than in the opinion of all the recruiters he was not list-worthy anyhow. So how will the Lions benefit if he is already judged to be a dud. Carlton has every opportunity to pick him if they want to in the National Draft or the PSD.
Personally I'd rather Brisbane have an opportunity to rookie players like Cox, Davey etc... Instead of the QLD kids.

Are AFL holding a gun to Brisbane's head and forcing them to draft these kids? All up you've drafted Marcus Allan (recently upgraded to senior list), Drummond, McDonald and Robert Copeland.

How so? We've drafted Prendergast ,Thornton, Carrazzo, Bentick who were overlooked in national drafts and the pre-season draft.We haved also drafted two Irish players just like Brisbane with the gun to their head.

Rookies may need more time to work on their game especially Queensland kids who may not be as well coached as rookies from "football states".In the end they might end up as good as Mal Michael who came off the Pies rookie list.

You're correct, no one forces Brisbane to select QLD kids, but there is such a thing as an "Obligation to the Game".
Brisbane's social responsibilities to the development of the game in QLD have never been questioned. Selecting QLD rookies is part of that responsibility to the overall "GOOD OF THE GAME" obligation, which you seem to be questioning.

Like I said the system has not delivered us a Davey or a Cox or a Robertson. But rest assured soon as we are able to get one, Edd and his mouthpiece followers will do everything possible to have the system changed.
Like I said IMHO the current system is constraining Brisbane in selecting the best available talent. But if Mills is overlooked in the ND and PSD and he ends up on the Brisbane rookie list, it will be because he is judged by the Lions to be worthy and deserving of his place on the list. If he turns out to be a GUN I will welcome it and no doubt people like yourself will get on here and preach of the advantages given to Brisbane. If he turns out to be a dud like so many other QLDers before him, I am sure you will not argue that the system will need to change because Brisbane is being disadvantaged.
