They brought it in to 'protect' the players who had to move interstate.
They then axed it when it was pointed out that it actually made things tougher for kids to get picked up. Even 1 year is better than nothing.
seems some clubs took talented 17 year old, bottom aged guys late in the draft because they couldn't rookie them. thus the huge pool of talented top aged kids that have fallen through to the rookie draft and pre- season draft.
can u see clubs taking 18 year olds like betts last year in the pre-season draft instead of recycled hacks that are floating around this year.

looks like we are doing a more realistic pre-season draft and rookie draft .......... maybe we should do a live version in this thread, we have 16 days till draft time.

No problems with a live one but it is just so hard to get everyone online together.I'm still waiting to hear from a couple of the original list so once I hear from them we'll organise something.By the way a few of the teams recruiters have changed since that original list.

burgatron had mcentee penciled in at pick 18 and that was way after i entertained the idea. their has been greater judges of talent than me who even had mcentee in their top 5's. so hows go and get @@@@@@ sound.

Mate, swear all you like, but your frequent posts and your drafting on this phantom draft shows you have absolutely no idea about the talent on offer this year. Every man and his dog knows Hawthorn needs a ruckman. That doesn't mean you have any particular knowledge or ability. In fact, you picked a guy at 6 that went in the 40's and 2 guys who weren't drafted at all.
The more you open your big mouth, the more you demonstrate that you have virtually no genuine knowledge of the talent pool, yet you continue to proclaim to be an expert - why don't you leave it to the guys that genuinely watch all the talent on offer?

so me drafting drum at 18 when he went at 10 makes him a steal then. this phantom draft wasnt about bowing to popular opinion, and rehashing the footydraft with jigging a couple of players a couple of places.......it was individuals expressing their views on players that they liked.
thought daniel nicholls might be up against being drafted with his height but i thought he could really play and i still do.

its easy to sit back and slag off someone else strategy, when u urself claimed there was no way in hell we would be taking a ruckman with any of our picks in the national draft.

This draft was not suppose to reflect the vanilla drafts that appeared on this board. It was about personal opinions and individual interpretation. Not what the club was actually going to recruit.
In my case I got Mitchell Clark correct. My second pick Birchall was not available to Brisbane in the real draft. If he was I am sure he would have been considered.
Drafting Drum at 18 in reality is a masterstroke. If Drum was available to Hawthorn at 18 I am sure he would have been considered.
On SEN when the question was raised about Hawthorn's pick 18 it was clearly explained that only two players were up for consideration. Max Bailey and Luke McEntee. They chose Bailey. They are the vagaries of being drafted and having an AFL career or spending your life in a regular 9-5 job with the rest of us. That's life.
All considering Luke Hodge did a great job on this draft. If I was Hawthorn I would not be too displeased with his selections.
