My guess at who we get is 1. Marc Murphy
4. Shannon Hurn/ Josh Kennedy/ Pat Ryder Thoughts.

yeh inside word carlton will 100% take a KPP with their first pick in the draft. Most likely between Dowler and Kennedy...You heard this first...

Why would they when Kennedy and/or Dowler will probably be available with our second pick?

im assuming where looking for a defender to play kpp... ben taggart is a roughie carlton scouts been in perth recently studyin him.. injured atm which could hold him back a few rounds

I want Murphy at 1, Dowler/Hurn/Ryder/Clarke/Kennedy at 4 (depending on the previous picks), and Spangher at 20 if we are lucky.

i think ideally...
1. murphy (or ellis if murphy goes father son)
2. hurn...seems ready made...but i think the dorks will get him...

if we get murphy then pies will prob get ellis then hurn to dorks...
leaves us clarke and dowler...two big forwards...

but who knows......

Way over the price for Lucy. Footydraft has him going at #22 at the moment which means he would be available for our pick 20. Even if he goes earlier, he isn't rated as a top 5 prospect. We might need a key defender but we can't rip ourselves off in the process.

I've played with Lucy for five years up here on the Sunny Coast, I know what the guy is capable of. Best utility in the draft...easily! He's not over the price..he's worth the price of a high draft pick.

Two reasons why Carlton will select a KPP with pick 1.

First of all they are more concerned with not getting their first choice KPP than their first choice midfielder. There is a concern that the KPP's drop suddenly in talent from one to the next whereas the midfielders are ranked pretty closely.

They are confident they will snare a midfielder from another club via the PSD.

1Ellis
4Lucy (some people want more midfielders, but we already have a ton of up and coming mids, so a gun defender is the best option.)
12Hughes(Traded for Whitnall)
20Warnock

Well if Carlton play their cards right they could get the best midfielder and the best tall.

There's no need to do what Hawthorn did last year. You should always go for the best player available.

Agreed...........we need to take who we consider to be the best players available, as fact is we need more of every type of player, whether they be midfielders or KPP.

the best option is going for the best player avaialble

in saying that KPP are unlikely to play many games in their first year, where an onballer can be 'carried' through

we have a few KPP prospects in hartlett, raso, o'halpins (norman if he is retained)

i think we need to look at onballers more as kouta is 32, campo & lappin 29 and most of the players we are likely to de list are onballers.

we picked up hartlett and raso (many say would have been 1st rounder this year) in last years draft both KPP

These next two years are going to be crucial in building up the future core of the club.

My two cents as per now; Murphy/Ellis at 1 (quality mid), Dowler/Kennedy at 4 (quality key forward/back), best player available at 20 (Warnock? Lucy? Swallow?), punt on Johnston at 36 (developing midfielder ala Blackwell).

On Johnston, I'm still of the opinion he needs time, but is worth the punt at 36 for now. For the club to claim him under F/S it's either this year or next, and I'd be almost certain the club will want to use up as little draft picks as possible come 2006. It's possible the club may want to gamble with him and snatch him at a later pick, utilizing the 3rd rounder on an open draft player, so shall be interesting to see what Carlton do with him.

Either way, if all goes according to plan (most notably, Murphy not going to Brisbane, and Ellis not pulling out), then a handy core is in place, with the 2006 draft still to come. Would be a testament to the draft/recruiting team looking back at the team list only a few seasons ago.

Couldn't agree more

a) That would serve to make you slightly biased towards him.
b) Do you know what the other players in the draft are capable of to make the comparison?
c) None of the recognised talent spotters have Lucy going that high.

Look, I know we need a versatile tall but the difference between 4 and 22 (where footydraft.com have him going) is huge. Players rated outside the top 5 are generally hit and miss. Maybe the talent spotters haven't recognised him because he is up here in Qld? I know the Lions are keen on him however (perhaps they know Michael is leaving).

It is one thing to say he is worthy of a number 4 draft pick but can you catagorically say that he is better than all of the other players tipped to go between 4 and 21? Or even just top 10?

I watched a couple of the Suncoast Lions under 18 games two years ago and saw a couple of players that dominated. I forwarded their names on to Carlton thinking I had discovered some hidden talent. They made rep sides and everything but I have no clue where they are now, their names never came up in anybody's reckoning. Lucy is obviously a hell of a lot better because he has been mentioned and has performed in the U18 carnival, but there must be a reason the whispers for him are not as big as many of the others. Are there any doubts on him and why?

Little bias? Yes..well a little, I'll admit that. But i'm looking at the draft for Carlton's benefit, not just to see one of my mates play for the Blues. What the Blues need is a Utility/KPP. Lucy fits that criteria. He has got a strong body, and is at a very good AFL standard height. Quick off the mark, possesses a good deal of pace, would most likely be faster than most of the Carlton players, bar Betts, Simpson and Walker.

What I'm trying to say is that Lucy is a well rounded player, and the Under 18's carnival proved that. He is worth pick 4, even though he is ranked at 22, for god knows why....maybe because he is from up here in QLD. Last time I talked to him he was keen on the Lions so he could still be with his friends and family, but he said he'd be willing ot go everywhere, he said nothing about the Lions contacting him or anything.

Anyways, he may not be rated as a top draft, but he is worth the price of the pick as he is a well rounded footballer.

I don't think Carlton will part with Whitnall, I believe that Lappin will go before Whitnall from some of his body language in the last few rounds

That would mean that we'd have to cough up the money then. How much are we willing to pay for Lance?

As reported in the paper $300,000 for 2 years. No more.

Agree with the spot of Lucy. Thornton needs all the help he can get in the defensive area. We need a KPP defender, so we should go with Lucy as our pick 4. Pick 1, I'd be happy with Murphy or Ellis, just depends if Murphy goes for the f/s rule, and go to Brisvegas. We need to draft wisely, so we need to draft all the KPP players. Pick 1 = mid-fielder (Murphy/Ellis) pick 4 = Defender (Lucy) etc, etc.
