After a few years of slim pickings - our rookie selection has been much better in recent times.

2008 Jarred Petrenko, Brodie Martin

2009 Ricky Henderson, Chris Schmidt,

2010 Matt Wright, Luke Thomson, Matthew Jaensch, Aiden Riley

We have done very well here and it could have been even better had James Moss not got hurt and Ed Curnow was not prematurely cut. He is now playing the type of football for Box Hill that people at TAC cup level knew he could play at the under age level.

Good observation.:thumbsu: Certainly been one of the few shining lights this year.

The other thing BACCS is that it means we will be able to cull a little more if needed because we could upgrade up to 6 rookies at ends break - Henderson, Jaensch, Schmidt, Wright, Thompson, Riley.

I am also hearing some good things about Sam Martyn.

If we lose some of Doughty, Burton, Hentschell, McLeod, Edwards, Goodwin etc. it means there are some good replacements on top of the top 3-4 players we should pick up in the draft.

Part of our problems pre 2008 was that our rookie drafting after the Mattner, Bock, Rutten year lacked quality.

It means that with a good pre-season - and not the horrendous one we have endured this year - we should be able to renew our list quite quickly when some if not all of past champions retire in the next few years.

With the exception of Thompson these rookies are all small to medium players who can play in most positions on the field except for the spine.

The thing about most of them players is they all look like 10 year players.
I saw Luke Thompson today for the first time and I liked what I saw. Every chance he got he would attack the man as well as the ball, which is something we've lacking recently. I can't for Brodie Martin to start playing again, he looked the goods against the Saints last season and adds some much needed space and attacking flair to the team.

Also Aiden Riley was named 2nd best for Sturt (adelaidenow.com.au) in his first league game against South today. Fantastic effort.:thumbsu:
