Everton? They don't have the financial muscle of the top 6 I don't think.

You don't think they have the financial muscle to compete when their net spend is greater than Chelsea/Liverpool/Spurs/Arsenal?

I was just assuming that Sam will be gone. They have the finance to compete with the Top 6 so was surprised Jatz thought that Leicester should be finishing above them.
They may have the finance but they haven't exactly bought well either. Will Moshiri want to keep putting in his money I guess?

We're by far the paupers in the top 6 financial muscle stakes and yet our revenue on the last set of released results was 130m higher than Everton's (theirs was 171m). Note both excluded player trading. We're already earning over 3 times as much on gate takings (with similar sized stadia) and this is before we move into our new stadium and its extra revenue (and costs).

In terms of squad strength they've got a lot of spending to do to catch up to the quality of even the squads of Spurs/Chelsea/Arsenal who will all undoubtedly try and strengthen again this summer. All of those clubs have a better striker, a better midfield, better defence and a better GK (maybe not Arse). How much would it cost for the Toffees to correct that?

It seems it's true.

Tony Bloom's wealth is one of the great hidden mysteries. As more and more information comes out however it seems he is totally minted, into the billions.

To counter that though he always said from the start he'd never enter into that kind of arms race of spending ludicrous amount of money on players as a strategy.

Thus "we could"(but we won't).

They call him the greatest football gambler in the world.

Our net spend wasn't that high, when you take into account money from John Stones still in the coffers as well as the Lukaku money.

What does John Stones have to do with your net spend this year?

Only United and City had a higher net spend than you this year.

They had a positive net spend the year before

That was before Moshiri wasn't it?

You realise things last longer than a year? And also Chelsea spent more than us and until Coutinho was sold that Liverpool had spent more than us.

They bought VVD knowing Coutinho was going though..

These metrics are all rather pointless because as you rightly say you can't assess things in a vacuum, but the point is that Everton have the funds now to compete with the top 6 which was all I was saying. Not sure why you're taking issue with that assessment.

I still don't believe they do. Gero's point on the last page was testament to that.

They were buying VVD no matter what.

We spent £12m more than Huddersfield, £14m more than West Brom, £9m more than Watford. That is hardly top 6 clout money. Moshiri is a rich guy, but all of these clubs have rich owners. You are making our net spend out to be like we are Manchester. Not even close.

I mean Brighton even spent more than us...

Lol where are you getting your figures? How did you spend 12m more than Hudd when Sigurdsson alone was just about their net spend?

Sure you got 75m for Lukaku, but then you throw in Keane, Pickford, Klassen...

15 for Barkley, 8 for Cleverley, 10 for Delu, it all adds up. Christ you are dumb.

They all add up to less than Onyekuru + Pickford, yes.

Please leave the personal insults out, it gets incredibly tiring.

I think 132m was essentially the PL money. 14 from the gate so not a lot for corporates and commercial.

I think in our new stadium we’re looking like getting 40m just from the hospitality/corporates/premium seat packages and earned 5m at Wembley last season which was FA Cup, CL/EL.... so yeah Everton are a long way behind and would need Moshiri to contribute a lot of money to catch up.

I just don’t see it atm. I think the top 6 is too far ahead of the rest and clubs like Everton, Leicester, Newcastle, West Ham who are the next largest should be filling the rest of the top half of the table and looking to break in if ala Chelsea one of the 6 has a major meltdown.
