From where do we achieve it among our current list ?

Who do we have who can generate a bit of leg speed & run through our midfield which is plainly obvious to even a blind Rooch that is one part of our game which is what we are lacking.

2 big disappointments for me during these last 5 or 6 weeks is the lack of form & pace from both Thompson & Reilly who were seen by many to be the next in line to Roo, Goodwin & Edwards in the engine room.

So is there anyone else who we can throw in there at this late stage of the season to add a bit of zip & hopefully a touch of class. ???????

The quickest mid-fielder we have hasn't played a game yet, noddy - Douglas.

Has genuine speed.

It's a no-brainer.

Richard Douglas is young, quick and classier than all the young tyros at Port that are tearing it up down there. He WILL be in the side this week.

Wonder how he'll cope at the top level of footy?

Only one way to find out, and its not as if our current midfielders are coping that well so what have we got to lose?

Douglas could add some leg speed but he is hardly Cooney quick.

We just don't have a young midfielder coming through that has the pace of a Cooney, or a McLeod or a Kerr. Thats something that we needed to address 2 draft ago and we are still looking for that quick, elusive midfielder.

Pfeiffer and Douglas are two we added to our list this year.

We have a lot of work to do in this draft.

If we are sentimental and keep players on the list because they have had reasonable years we may find two or three years down the track we are in big trouble.

We need to get another two or three good midfielders this year and one or two good KPPs.

We have now set ourselves up for rucks.

There are very challenging times ahead despite the fact we recruited very well last year in the main draft.

No disrespect to Dougie BUT I think he has to at least have a run in the AFL for all this quick and classier talk to hold any water. There is a big leak on the titanic and I hope little Dougie comes in and make difference. good on the kid, hope he gets a run and we also benefit from watching him play if he's as good as the hype surrounding him.

Pfeiffer and Douglas are not Cooney quick or Kerr quick. They are the quickest we have as the young and upcoming midfielders but they are not in the same class of quickness as someone like Cooney or Kerr and not to mention Judds and Deledios of the world.

Cooney is certainly speedy but its amazing how much quicker a player looks when he's left completely all on his own all day like Cooney was yesterday.

True but I would still back in any footrace between any of our midfielders. He would burn them off.

Spot on...Didnt we all say Knights was quick?

Mattner is elusive. Not one of the quickest guys in the league but at least when he is on song he is very difficult to catch, not to mention his great closing speed when chasing.

If the Crows are looking for an immediate fix, there are two handy aboriginies currently playing in the back line with the pace and skills to work into the midfield rotation.

IMHO the Crows have sufficient players to play in the back line. Finals football is won in the middle and McLeod, Ricciuto, Johncock, Goodwin, Edwards and Reilly are the players who have the class and should be in there as much as possible. No point in having specific defensive taggers if they are still going to get beaten by the likes of West. Might as well have a player who can do damage on the offensive and Shirley and Van Berlo (at this stage) are not those players.

Nah you have

Don't know why there is a rolleye smilie there, but yes I have seen both play several times.

Oh and would you look at that, Dougie is making his debut.

I thought he was far too small for AFL and there was no way he would play this year?

:D

because it's pretty clear he has, and that doesn't change anything ;)

yes. and?

wasn't kerr spose to be too slow and too small at some stage?

why is Shirley still on the field? He doesn't tag he doesn't do anything offensively he doesn't do anything notable, bloody lady of the manor getting by on others coat-tails...
how sub par does a mid-field have to be in contested possession before changes are made? Clarke has risen to the occasion now where the hell are the followers? fumbling all over themself and not making position.

glengowan, one of those two lads would be very good in the mid-field.
I'd like to have one back there still.
However we don't actually have a tagger or players performing tagging roles on mid-fielders and there is no attempt made at doing so.
Which is blatantly obvious when players get the amount of possessions opposition mid-fielders get against adelaide and you can't have that with quality players you will have to play against in the finals.
Also VB is a winger... he is bloody good at the quick precise handpass from around ground stoppages and tackles very well I'd keep him on that wing...

Find another few fumbles by mattner there wouldnt be many, I am not convinced that pace is the problem outside of initiative to run with it. There seems many invisible lines on the field that players will just not run past.

Players will look a lot slower at AFL. At SANFL Douglas and Pfeiffer are considered pretty quick but AFL they will look slower.
Introducing, the SANFL!!!

 It's painful how bad you people think the SANFL is.
