Pacemaker: Free agency a joke

West Coast Wonders up and comer pacemaker has voiced his concern with the free agent system currently in place in the SFA. In a interview with the Western Australian when asked about what do you believe are some negatives in playing in the SFA? Pacemaker replied “I believe the free agency system is starting to become a joke, there are approximately 25 regular posters in the SFA and about 15 semi-regular posters. When you have such a system in place when a player can leave for nothing and join another club this has the ability to create one super club". When asked can you elaborate further on this pacemaker replied “Baghdad Bombers, missed out narrowly in this years finals race and it seems the disappointment of this has lead to a major recruiting binge”. EKA nominee Tim_saints, statsfanatic an experience SFA player and a couple of other retired legends have been rumoured to join such as TFLUA-Tiger and Whomb are just a couple of names being mentioned who were recruited post -season in a bid for Baghdad to win a flag. “ I just don’t think its fair in my own opinion, you just need to look at the southern dragons they lost two stars with one rumoured to have been a future captain in a couple of years time". Pacemaker went on further to say “this is going to create an unbalanced competition where one super club has 18 regular posters, and all the other clubs will manage on average 6 regulars”. The competition is set to expand with the revival of the Fitzroy Roys and CEO of the SFA doggiesin08 has made it clear that there will be no new clubs due to the fact of not enough regular members posting. When asked to comment on this pacemaker added “ It is going to be hard for any club particularly Fitzroy to hold on to these blue chip players who post when you have one super club containing 60% of them”. When asked what should be the solution to counteracting this problem pacemaker added It would be unfair to make contracts compulsory in the SFA as players can have falling outs with clubs within a month or 2. I believe a pre-season draft like the one in the AFL should be incorporated into the SFA at the end of the year. If a player wants out they nominate for this draft and this give any club a chance to sign the player. Now the player can request to go to a club but may not necessary be picked up by that club” and will need to wait for the mid-season trading the following year to get their wish if they still desire it". Pacemaker added “now I know this is going to have many disagreements but something needs to be done to counteract this problem”. Just recently this week information had been leaked that two stars Okeydoke (Mt Buller) and Boncer (East Side) are a legitimate chance in being recruited by the Bombers. When this was put to pacemaker he replied “those are only rumours I would think Okeydoke is a loyal person and will stay with Mt Buller and if this doesn’t occur I don’t think he will end up there as there is some hostile relationship with him and some bomber players, and I would suggest Boucer is in the same boat. I hope they both stay put as if they leave and join the bombers it would be a disappointing day for the SFA”. If somehow the bombers are able to sign these two starts it would add to there impressive list of stars recruited this year. In a concluding comment pacemaker stated in a sarcastic manner“ Every regular poster might as well all go and play for the bombers and we could leave the remaining clubs for new players to sort themselves out”. Pacemaker was also targeted by the bombers in there massive recruiting binge but remained loyal to the West Coast Wonders signing until the end of 2010.

:D okay, I'll come clean. The thread about this rumor was a fairytale. A moment of boredom on my part. I apologize.

Pacemaker, who cares?

Go out and do some recruiting yourselves.

If you're getting jealous of us because we are a strong unit, don't start whinging about the system and the team, find a way to improve yourselves.

Exactly, who cares. It's the rule, just because he's whinging doesn't mean it's going get changed.

I hear what you are saying, but don't think a draft is the answer. For example, Mods and Furies have a set criteria for players. But my major hesitation in leaving the Dees is that they get nothing in return. Excuse the arrogance, but they lose a high profiler and get absolutely nothing.

Anyway, I personally like free agency whilst in my position. As a player potentially looking to move clubs, it is good to know that I can freely pick and choose where I play post-season. However from an overall competition and clubs perspective it is a negative.

Maybe a form of restricted free agency? I don't see the rule changing tbh and it is the responsibility of the club to choose the right captains who will be commited to recruiting.

Food for thought; A lot of posters are only interested in playing with mates otherwise they'd be less interested in playing at all.

FFS. The Bombers have recruited 2 active players from other teams. That isn't going to f*** up the competition in any way.

Every other player that's joined the club over the past few weeks were either inactive or new recruits that we actively brought into activity.
Whether they are new or previously inactive there is one thing that brought every single one of them to the Bombers... Our players spent time and effort contacting these guys and actually convinced them to become active players that otherwise wouldn't have been.

People should stop whinging about the Bombers recruiting EFFORTS and actively bring people into the comp. If all you guys do what we've done the comp will become stronger. But if you don't do it then you need to realise that it's actually you guys that are responsible for having half a dozen active posters on your team, not us.

Cheers for posting it croweater LOL at the thread title

Clearly not everyone read the article in full and they are just getting the gist of things of what was said and replying with critisim.

What Idiots!!!!

EFL jealous of what?? I was offered a spot and i declined.

I think some of you are missing the major point of the article. If one team has 60% of the regular posters on their team It won't take long for others to join the bandwagon and as soon as you know it one club will have 85% of the regulars who come here and post leaving the rest of the 8 clubs (including fitzory) with 3 or so regulars each who come on here.

Well i believe it will get quite boring when most of the competition is at the one club, there will be very little people to debate with or have arguments with and this will lead to the one club to start on themselves

...So stop whinging and recruit inactive players for your team.

Do you think it would be better for the comp if Hawks and Bombers didn't make the effort to contact inactive, I'll say it again... inactive SFA posters, and bring activity to the comp? There are thousands of BF posters who aren't active SFA posters.
The only reason there would ever be 1 or 2 teams with 18 active players and a bunch of teams with only 6 active posters is because guys like YOU don't make the effort to get inactives at your club. Get to work mate.

Are we supposed to contact guys like TFLUA-Tiger, Whomb and co (I mentioned the one's from the OP) and suggest that they jon the SFA in your team? Why don't your players do that?

I guess you'd prefer me to say something like this... "Hey amos, you're my favourite FF poster, I know you haven't been interested in FF for a while mate but how about you come back to the SFA so the lazy teams can pick you up in pacemaker's proposed draft"

:rolleyes:are you still at the hawks or did you join the awesomeness of the bombers?

The irony of this post is hilarious. Now who's not reading everything?
I suggest you read over this thread again. Or if that's too much trouble I'll make it easy for you and point you towards post #2.

point missed again.

recruiting retired players is one thing but gaining players who were from another team who are regular posters and good players is another. The southern Dragons got nothing in return for statsfanatic and tim_saints.

Tim_saints is a great player / posters and is to be congratulated for that point. But you would be kidding yourself if you said the southern dragons had no influence what so ever is the development of the player, giving a first year rookie the opportunity to play in superior positions ahead of loyal dragon players. I am no way having a stab at you tim but the dragons got nothing for you when you left and they had every right to be pissed off. Yeah sure this is fantasy footy and rules are different to the real thing but you see the point i am making.

More irony :)

You say I'm missing your point while you completely miss my point that if you go out and actively contact inactive people like Bombers did there won't be an inbalance.

At the end of the last season Bombers probably had around 6 regular posters and a few part time posters and the rest were mostly inactive. Pretty much the same boat as most other teams. We have made the effort to bring in activity and now have a great, active list.

Mobbs has been able to almost throw together a full list in around a week!!!

There are potential FF guns everywhere on BF.
Stop complaining about free agency and work on getting more new players or inactives into the game. :thumbsu:

your missing MY major point. Sure going out and recruiting inactive posters and creating them into active posters is what every club wants to do and it doesn't always happen and i congratulate what you have done here as it is the club that makes this happen.

My major point of the article is about how "free agency is a joke". "Blue chip players" as i stated in the article are members who post here daily such as yourself, tim_saints, Rick18, croweater, ect, ect. I just don't believe they should be able to leave clubs for nothing

I have herd mobbs has 18 players now and Fitzroy Roys looks very realistic for 2010. How many of those will be "blue chip players"??? Time will tell

Ok, listen very carefully.....

They will come here or to the Hawks as we have made the EFFORTS to go out and recruit players. If you made the EFFORT to go out and promote the club and recruit players inside/outside of the league then you will see players coming in.

Go promote the club on the West Coast Board, and even the Fremantle board for that matter.

Ok, Tim left and came to us, fair enough the Shagons got pissed off, but it is now THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO GO OUT AND RECRUIT PLAYERS TO REPLACE HIM.

To the ******** that wrote the srticle,

I hardly ever post in this competition, yet I've recruited two players to the SFA for the Hawks.

I don't give a shit whether it's a marquee player that you lose or not... if they want to walk, let them, and find your own marquee players that'll develop into guns. The key is keeping people motivated and interested. You're pretty pathetic if you can't do that.
