Paddy Ryder

Thought I'd offer my views to you guys after watching paddy go round for 8 years odd. Hope they're reasonably well received.. Bit shattered to lose the big easy but I think it worked out ok for all parties concerned.

Strengths: Laconic style that belies his competitiveness. Has a great leap and is quick and extremely durable, I can't remember a major injury. Really smooth kicking action, excellent kick for goal, good field kick. Good competitor at ground level and not afraid to do the team things like shepherding. Good mark overhead and on the lead and can sit on blokes' heads.

Weaknesses: Can drift in and out of games. He plays best when he's first ruck and rucking approximately 80% of the game resting up forward. Not so good when he's not on the ball, he's not an active forward, instead relying on smart leads. Can get monstered by the really big players who disrupt his leap and timing. Can get lost in the play a bit and his defensive side is weak.

Hope you guys like him as much as we did, he's a great player to watch.

The feeling on the Essendon board is that they got the raw end of the Ryder deal. .

Nice to hear for an Essendon supporter, it is pity we cannot visit the Essendon boards and ask a few questions but you have told us a fair bit. Thanks for that.

Thanks a lot. Kenny, Burgo and the boys will take all that and transform him into a beast.

Westy and Ryder, 2 laconic KPF in the onside could test my sanity.

Lobbe ruck defensive side of Centre, Ryder offensive ruck

Good to hear about the set shots. Monfries and Schulz are about the only guys you can lock in atm. Maybe as the seemingly more level headed BF Essendon supporter you can cheer up your supporters. You would never have gotten Giles without Ryder leaving, and you got him for an absolute steal. I have always rated him and he will be 1st ruck by mid season. At that point everyone will be saying wtf did GWS let him go for a upgrade from 62 to 53.

Wonderful news. Welcome to the best club in the country, Paddy.

Round 1, 2015 @ Adelaide Oval: Ryder 8:4 (52) d Essendon 1:1 (7).

Crippsy's off to Parliament House now to stare down Julie Bishop.

The #4 guernsey needs a good airing for a year or two to de-spud it.
Give Paddy #30, just to mess with the Bombers' fans. It's a small price to pay to ask Sam Colquhoun to change.

It's not like the #4 has been sighted much on the field in recent years. I say give it straight to him.
