Movie Paranormal Activity

Saw it in the cinemas last night. Plenty of screams, even a few Ned Flanders type screams from the guys. Cleverly done all round film. Done without buckets of blood too.

As an aside, it screened as a double feature with Blair Witch Project.

Having read the aletrnate endings now, I quite like the one they went with.

I saw the movie tonight and I thought it was quite average and boring, nothing overly scary and throughout the whole movie I was wishing I had seen Zombieland instead. But credit to the writers and directors as the last 10-20mins is pretty good.

Once you leave the theatre you start thinking what if and end up mind****ing yourself its a pain in the arse.

Also saw it tonight. I'd say it's a scary/shit movie. Very slow which annoyed me, even though I know that's what the director was going for, I was hoping for more jumpy scares rather than ambience and situational scares.
Also wish you could see the end bit between Micah and Katie but I understand it'd ruin the suspense if you saw it.

First of all, so glad I did not pay for tickets to this film. (ONE more thanks CMF :):thumbsu:)

Wont try and give anything away to the people still wanting/planning on going to see it... but geezus it could have been a WHOLE lot better.

Starting with the acting. Sure. Yup. THAT was "natural like, real life doco acting". My ****ing arse. Blair Witch shits all over it in terms of realism and 'believeability'.

The hype was just sky high for this movie and it was always going to be a let down. Some of the scenes/ moments were really quite creepy- some are more subtle than others. But the acting just drags it all down imo- especially from the female lead. And there are some plot holes or "why didnt they do that instead" moments in the film too.

5/10.

After seeing this, its made me realise how ****ing awesome Blair Witch was and how I want to now add it to my DVD collection.

Oh and slightly off topic (and an old topic too Im sure).. but is it just me or people are SO ****ING RUDE in cinemas these days.

(I worked at a major cinema circa 1996-2001- saw movies every week and the problem wasnt near as bad imo)

Had some ****ing bitch sitting behind me ****ing commentate every ****ing little thing regarding the movie.:thumbsdown:

Oh and apologies to the "teenybopper" crowd who are often accused of this type of thing. This woman was in her 30s!!! You dont like a movie for whatever reason, then stand the **** up and walk out. Dont ruin it for everyone else.

Saw this last night with a group of friends and we all came away pretty disappointed.

I think I spent more time psyching myself out waiting for something to happen than I did actually being scared of what was going on up on the screen.

I understand where they were going with the ending but it just felt so flat to me and I looked around thinking "This can't be it" The alternate versions that have been leaked around are much better imo.

It was good but not great. There were some genuine WTF moments (The footprints messed me up) and you do jump a couple times but it's not the scariest movie ever. For me that honor is still with The Exorcism of Emily Rose. Couldn't sleep all weekend after catching that.

Ditto.

Very intense movie, quite enjoyed it. I loved the progression of each night, how the events slowly get worse and worse, sometimes you would wonder what they could do next to outdo the previous night and it was well done.

Gotta love that whenever the movie scene changed to day, everyone in the cinema breathed a sigh of relief :D

I guess it's down to if you like these type of movies.

My mates and I loved it, really freaked out. One of my other mates didn't like it at all (bar the ending).

I personally think it's one of the best movies to come out this year (well re-relase).

i saw the original version... it was quite good, it did its job to scare me and i havent been scared from a horror movie in a while lol

i thought they couldve created more suspense had they not fast forwarded the video footage when they were asleep, cause then u knew when something was gonna happen... 7.5/10

LMAO, found this thread about the movie. Funny stuff imo.

I take it you just mean to cut to different times, rather than "fast forward"?

The only other alternative to that would be to watch everything in real time. Lol... would make for a VERY long movie. ;)

Fast Forwarding was like they would show something happen at 1:30am, and then fast forward the timer to 3:30am and something else would happen.

Happened a few times throughout the movie.

I thought The Blair Witch Project was boring as batshit.

As someone predicted earlier, teenybopper crowd put a dampener on the only movie that ive ever been scared in. While i'm only 18 those friggen teenage girls shit me how they shriek alllll the time, scream out "theres a shadow". Then their gay ass, flat cap wearing male company try do out do each other by yelling out 'funny' comments to impress said no-titted teen girls.
/rant

the movie...
The reason I think that made it scary was because they never went away from the subject at hand. there was no scenes at police departments, background stories ect. You were always being reminded of what was happening, you were never getting a break.

For this movie to frighten you, you have to have some sort of propensity to the paranormal. Best horror movie I've ever seen. Absolute rubbish like Friday the 13th has nothing on primal horror.

Yeah I didn't think much of The Blair Witch Project, mainly because that gritty "reality" style motion picture only really works imo when there is at least a slight possibility of something like that really happening. That's why I found PA to be so effective; if you've seen or heard about weird things that have happened, it leaves you thinking about the possibilities. As someone else said earlier in this topic, it's a mind**** AFTER you leave the cinema, whereas with most horror films you walk out and don't think anything of it.

I did find that watching the 2007 promotional DVD was more frightening too, simply because as others have said there were no ******* teens ruining the atmosphere. If you can, try to catch it when the theatre is relatively empty.

Re: Paranormal Activity Tickets Giveaway

I've seen it and it's the best movie I've seen this year.

It's really scary and it stays with you long after the movie finished.

But I said I'd take my friends to see it and it would be awesome to not have to pay for it :D.
I thought it was OK - a good little scary movie that actually had me involuntarily looking away right at the last few seconds. Worth a look but still had a big spot where I looked around wondering when they were going to move things along. And yes the giggling teenage girls in the audience were annoying.

Japanese films like Ring and Dark Water were far scarier.

Best recent film I've seen? I think Zombieland has to take that title even with a sort of lame-ish ending.

I have heard of this but never seen it. Must get it out.
