You wanted him to lay a tackle while the ball was in midair? Ah Chee never took possession of the footy.

No, but also don’t brace for contact. Ah Chee was genuinely playing the ball. Cripps braced for contact because he knew he was late.

Careless, high impact, high contact.

Lucky it wasn't severe

Always comes down to the medical report. If Ah Chee recovered quickly its High, if he struggled and needed scans or a trip to hospital then its Severe.

Blues will probably contest it but the AFL simply wont allow the Tribunal to overturn it. They open themselves up to massive lawsuits if they let bumps like that be acceptable.

It's no where near severe. That's like breaking his jaw kind of territory.

Carlton won't argue the impact anyway. It's about if "the player was contesting the ball and it was reasonable for the player to contest the ball in that way."

Provide Rioli case and show eyes for the ball. I'll say they have about 10% chance of overturning it. But may as well try.

Ok that's the first part done. Think on the grading scale 2 seemed correct. Now Carlton will appeal and try and argue it being reasonable for him to turn his body in the aerial contest.
It's not though as you can't have players clearing out marking contests with hip and shoulders. Cripps could have punched the ball instead of tucking up, it's on him.

2 weeks the right outcome.

Doesn’t he need to be found to be reasonably contesting the ball or something to get off? So are you saying that they will argue that he intended to contest the ball, realised he wasn’t going to be able to do that and turned his body to brace for contact, the result of which caused him to collect Cal, who was playing the ball, high and concuss him?

In short, as soon as he turns isn’t that a concession that he is no longer reasonably contesting the ball?

I mean before round 1 this year I'm with you but they showed clear precedent regarding this with Rioli hit on Rowell.

Like I said it's slim chance because honestly that Rioli decision was just wrong anyway. Plus Ah Chee got concussion from whiplash whereas Rowell just landed on his back.

They'll feel obliged to contest it, otherwise it will appear as if they're hanging Voss out to dry.
Two weeks seems right

They'll appeal, lose, and then appeal again. The footy news cycle is sorted for this week

Cripps was definitely looking to lay him out. If he was a defender he would have put a fist up to make it look incidental.

That Rioli one was strange but if Ah Chee walks away from that with no damage then Cripps is getting off too. The system is outcome based and changing it to intend would make it even worse from a consistency and AFL star discount manipulation point of view.

I would love the dog acts to get extra though when it is clear cut but it rarely is.

A shame he didn’t get whatever discount Willie Rioli got.

Look that’s the risk you take in the modern game, if you are both going for the footy and you get a bloke high and he’s concussed then yeah, you’re going to miss games

I don’t like it but it is what is is. Interesting it was graded as “High” impact and not severe, was concussed before he hit the ground and smashed his head pretty hard again there too. What is severe? Hospital visit? Then whoever carelessly made contact with Dusty’s kidney should’ve been graded as careless and severe impact right?
