It actually isn't. He's been extremely busy lately putting together the Footy Almanac book. The question would be, why did he take up a job that he couldn't do properly due to all the limited amount of time he had? It would have been better handled by someone focusing on the one task.

Not knowing who Michael Hutchinson is was inexcusable as it means he didn't watch the u18 championships. Then to get Joel Wilkinson's name wrong, when if he'd been at the draft combine he would have known exactly who he was. And not having a clue who Warrick Andreoli is.

Think you are being unfair to Daffey but picked up on the AFL chat - in his answers to questions - That he has nowhere near the links to recruiters that Burgan and Quayle enjoy. I suppose that this will come in time.

I don't think he knew who Chalwell or Andreoli were either.

I was talking about his live chat after his phantom, not about him leaving them out of his actual draft. Where he admitted to not knowing anything about Chalwell, and said "not sure about Andreoli".

Chalwell was never a real chance, despite being talked up like nobody else on BigFooty by I'm assuming troll accounts made by his managers. I did and still rate Andreoli, but clearly Daffy is privvy to inside information so good for him.

But enjoy bringing up posts by people who actually go out on a limb and give their opinions. Not just wait until after the fact.

Opinions are fine, what isn't fine is posters posting crap as fact.

Here's a tip 99% of people who post mock drafts are guessing because they know nothing about the kids other than what has been posted by other even less knowledgeably posters, it gets really sick when others treat the mock draft posters as some kind of drafting expert.
If they were expert, they wouldn't be posting on here.

The other thing is, posters often bag those who actually do have some insight (like Daffy) then they can never be found when it comes time to say "I was wrong"

Its kind of like "mobbing".
Someone says "Hey kid x will go early" another idiot says "Oh yeah he will got top 20" and before you know it the "mob" decides he is a gun.
What you don't know, is that almost none of those promoting "kid x" as the next big thing have even see him play.
It is just crap piled on top of even more crap.

And as for me giving a view on certain kids, how can I? I know nothing about them and have never seen 99% of them kick a ball

I can assure you Chalwell's management were not talking him up on Bigfooty. They did, however, post the profile video that seems to have gotten him all the attention. I was absolutely stunned when he was picked at 23 in the phantom draft, and I said so in pretty strong terms. I do rate Andreoli ok though, but I know some concerns have been expressed about him by a few teams, which I won't go in to. He does definitely have the talent to be an AFL player if he gets it together.

But some people do know what they're talking about. And I'm not trying to pick a fight with you, but it's the people who come along afterwards and bring up all the players they rated but were overlooked, which drives those posters away. Not saying I'm one of them by the way, a lot of other posters know far more than I ever will.

I'll wait until after the rookie draft as to whether or not I admit to being wrong. I still rate Andreoli highly, but maybe I will have to reconsider if he gets overlooked again.

Yeah, good discussion and your points are well made.

I guess for me it comes down to not accepting that a kid doing year 10 at Broadmeadows secondary college, all of a sudden becomes a drafting expert because they posted a mock draft on bigfooty.

Perhaps I was being a little unkind to all those who say they have an insight, I guess if 100 posters say they have inside knowledge 1 or 2 of them might actually be telling the truth, but I am yet to find one.
For most it is nothing more than uninformed ridiculous speculation dressed up as "Look at me - I'm a drafting expert"

first of all let me state that i bow to your knowledge of the kids.
i do have some inside info however about Chalwell in that he was spoken to by at least 3 clubs so i think it can be assumed that he was a chance to be drafted

Some of the mocks are really, really worthwhile*; the problem is the big chunk of them that are basically just summaries of all the other ones done by kids who've not seen any of the prospects.

*The disclaimer being, most punters (even your knightmares etc) only get to look at maybe TAC cup & the champs games; or if they're from SA they'll only see SA U18s & SANFL etc.

There's always 5 or 10 kids who come from outside those main sources, and some of them really upset the applecart.

That's the limitation.

Anyone who takes an internet punter's word over a full-time pro; on anything; is probably a dill.
