Speculation about it on the NAB game thread, thought it might be worth its own one. I would have thought it quite likely that this season may be his last?

Would he be one that would be interested in moving into coaching? I can't remember what he's said about his intentions after finishing up playing footy.

Thanks for doing my job for me, other thread was getting a little OT to be sure.

I think this is the last year that Pav can produce at a decent enough level so I'll go with 2015, get the feeling that beyond that he may end up as a liability.

I have complete confidence in Pav's judgement so I know when the time comes he'll gracefully step aside, not the type to go on one year too many imo.

Hope it's this year. Nothing worse than seeing a champion play on too long. We need to move out of the Pav era and into the Fyfe era.

My greatest wish is that he can retire a premiership player - THIS YEAR.

From the other thread:
I'm also of the opinion that this is Pavs last year playing for the club. Basing it on nothing other than personal opinion, but, I don't think he'll go around again next year regardless of if we win the big one or not.

Once upon a time you could stick him in the goal square for a year or two. Play with a growing belly and kick 60+ a season with limited running. Those days are gone.

I disagree entirely! Pav is as fit as a fiddle and there is no reason for him to call it a day just because of a date on the calendar. He is a great leader and player, and Fyfe has only been in the leadership group for one year. Let him finish his apprenticeship first.

I can see him doing either. As mentioned though, I'd hate to see him go on for 1 year too long.

Remember Goodes is still going around albeit being aided by Buddy and Tippett around him.

It will feel so weird watching the team without Pav but after this year that's the way it's going to be.

I remember reading back in December about Pav negotiating with channel seven for a full-time media role next year. I think he'll serve as a special comments man for a season or two before moving into coaching.

2015 to be the great man's swan song.

He's too short to just be playing one out in the goal square. He will get monstered by the new age 200cm defenders who are becoming increasingly prevalent. He has relied on his movement and running ability in the past to get separation from his opponents; being immobilised in the goal square will make it almost impossible for him to compete with the younger and bigger key-defenders that he will attract.

Goodes can still play a role as a tall forward because he is playing as a 3rd tall behind Buddy and Tippett and not attracting the oppositions monster defenders.

We are in serious trouble whichever way you look at it, though. I think Taberner is a promising tall but he is far too green to be inheriting the position as the number 1 key forward from next season onwards. I think it will be catalyst for us falling down the ladder next year as we will just find it so hard to capitalise on forward fifty entries.

And as an aside, I can't see him pursuing coaching at all. He is a well educated young man and I think if he's going to be involved in footy outside of commentating then it will be in the commercial side of things. He seems like a suit-wearing person more than a polo-shirt-wearing person.

I said Pav will know himself when his time is up and my prediction is that time being the end of this year, what is your prediction?

If a slower, older Pav is good for 2 goals a game and we can't get that plus some extra run from a younger player, we are in trouble. I expect that one or more of the younger guys will overtake him.

Must be feeling OK physically and mentally for the moment as he stepped into a centre bounce or two at the recent intra club and he's equalling his 3km PB.

He only played a half but had more impact than any of the other tall prospects (Apeness, Hannath, Clarke, Griffin). Early days, but that's probably saying more about the others than it is about Pav.

I'm reserving judgement on 2016 until we see how he competes and whether anyone else steps up in the meantime.

I actually think the club's recruited this last draft with a plan for Fyfe to be our next kpf or back up for Pav. If Blakely & Weller come up gangbusters like we're expecting, I don't see any reason for Pav to retire any time soon. Let him play till he's ready. He's still our best option

I think this as well.

From an article I read today. Micky Barlow said, that Pav is constantly worried about his spot in the side.
