Most cooler mounting hardware was before AMD released the new AM4 socket. To get the specific AM4 bracket will be a no cost upgrade you just need to let them know at point of sale.

Thanks mate - I really appreciate all the help.

I'm pretty much decided on the build now - I'm happy with all the parts and I'm okay with spending a bit extra to make sure it stays good for a fair amount of time. Do you happen to know of any other PSUs that compete with the SilverStone one, just in case I can't find it anywhere? Everywhere I try says sold out and Scorptec even says that there's no ETA for their return.

This one's a tad more expensive and only 650W but it looks solid to me. And lights! :P

And then I doubt I'm going to be able to resist fancy LEDs.

Total for that build is a touch under $3,500 without a power supply, so fair to say my cap is completely out the window. It looks pretty damn good to me though, so I'll have to figure out whether I can cop the cost.

I have absolutely no idea how to pick a power supply.

there's websites that will calculate your the power your system will need by the parts you specify, add some for spare room and pick a brand. i'm running a corsair hx750i, having been ****ed by PSU's before i was happy to spend $200+

there's youtube reviews for just about every computer part you can think of when you're looking into your computer bits. and if it's not on youtube, it will have been reviewed somewhere else.
i would consider a cheaper mouse, and put the money saved from that toward taking advantage of the m.2 slot on your motherboard and getting an ssd that will give you 4x+ times the read speeds your current build's ssd will give you.
you'll need some cooling on your X cpu, but it can't be a front mounted radiator because of the size if your GPU. or you could go with the ryzen 5 1600.
your LED's are going to be sitting behind the tinted glass of that case.

i remember going out of my mind trying to figure out whether i wanted positive or negative fan pressure, wasn't worth the time i spent researching it.

The Silverstone Strider 650w is in stock. Would still be fine.

Are you able to point me in the right direction for this? I'm getting conflicting information. If you navigate to specs on this site it doesn't list AM4, but if you click "PC Compatibility Checker" on the same site and enter the Ryzen 5 1600X it says it's compatible. The Deepcool website says "upgrade kit needed" but I can't find where to source that / what I need exactly.

Ask the retailer, they should have Asetek retention kits for AM4.
 
Dan did you order the Meshify? Was doing an overtime shift this morning and thought I'd duck up to Scorptec as I'm local and get it in case they have no stock in a few weeks as well as my PSU and cable kit. Refreshed the site first and saw they were now out of stock. arseh*le :p

I'll order it this week and just go pick it up next week. I need to ask them stuff anyway about when I can preorder the 8700k and when they are getting the new mobo stock lists.

Tell pccg you're using the cooler for a Ryzen build & you need an AM4 retention bracket

What are my options with regard to antivirus/security suites? Any recommendations? It has been a long time since I ran a Windows PC and have no idea what's around now. Preferably something that's not intrusive; i.e. not going to pop up and bug me every 30 seconds, as is my memory of older security software.
 
Most people go free ones, they're good enough if you're sensible on the interwebz. I've been using paid AVG for 5 or 6 years now. Uses very little resources and non intrusive. Getting a bit annoyed that of late sometimes it tells me I should check out their internet security though. I also don't go to any dodgy sites or download stuff so it's more piece of mind. They're probably all pretty equal these days but I remember using stuff like Norton back in the day and it was total hog.
 
running windows defender + firewall. also running malwarebytes - i registered for a lifetime license 7 or 8 years ago which cost me ~$40aud at the time. lifetime licenses are no longer offered. i barely notice it, but i also look at a lot less pr0n, or it may have become less effective.

I think a number of EVGA PSUs are rebadged Seasonics, Corsair used to rebadge them too. My Corsair has been on almost 24/7 since I got it (has to be at least 7-8 years old) in a couple of different builds, and lived though some dodgy power issues in my old place, and has been solid the whole time.

Yeah a number of brands use Seasonic PSU's. I think the Antec Edge series are also SS.

When (if) my 550W eventually dies I will just find a reasonably priced modular PSU which is manufactured by Seasonic. Doesn't matter what the brand is providing they source the components from SS. I don't usually care about brand loyalty but you don't want to put a low-end PSU into a high-end rig. I think power supplies are often something people skimp on when they build a new rig because they see it as an easy place to save a few dollars. This is a rookie mistake.

Haha! Just jumped on to Scorptec to get it on order and saw that myself. PCCG lists it as sold out too. Sucks because I got my heart set on tinted tempered glass and the few other options are at least twice the price.

That was top of my list prior to seeing the Meshify. Only issue is that is a massive case and a single GPU build might look a bit empty. I was looking at the In Win 909 as well but it's probably a bit 'busy'. Unfortunately not tinted but one I was checking out a little while ago was this one. Not keen on the idea of even the cable management side having a glass panel it ticks the other boxes for me.

That was one of the first cases I clicked on but the window got closed quickly when I saw the price. ;)
