Traded Pearce Hanley (2007-2016)

The early form of Irish recruit Pearce Hanley is another victory for the ''improvisers''. Of course, the Irish experiment goes back many years, but there is no greater example of lateral thinking than turning to Ireland for our football talent.

That we have has provided us with some remarkable stories. Voss seems intent on using Hanley's talents more expansively this year. I hope he does. He could well be, behind the Demons' Brownlow Medal import Jim Stynes, the best of a richly talented group of Irishmen.

Michael Whiting: What's been the living arrangement since you've got out here. Who do you live with now?

I've been moving around a fair bit. I lived with Craig Lambert for three months and then moved in with Cheynee Stiller. Colm Begley passed through then moved in with Albert Proud. I went to Sammy Sheldon's, then moved out with Claye Beams and Broc McCauley. Broc's obviously moved on and now Jesse O'Brien has moved in, so there's been a lot of house jumping, but settled now in Camp Hill with Claye and Jesse.

I've heard you say that you've taken an extra step forward with your professionalism. Can you tell us a bit about that?

I wanted to get a lot fitter, so my weekends have been a lot more relaxed, and just preparation leading into games has been a lot better, then after my recovery, I've tried to nail that, and I've been doing pretty well. I've been able to get up for training and do all the sessions and get ready for game time.

You played all 22 games last year, mostly on that half back line. Where do you see your role this year?

I've done a lot of work on the wing, so hopefully be half back/wing. Wherever I'm needed to be honest.

Just looking forward Pearce, personally and from a team point of view, what are your goals and expectations for 2012?

I haven't set too many goals for the end of 2012, but we've set a game plan up that we want to concentrate on performing each week and hopefully that will lead to us having a lot more wins. Whether that means finals or not, I don't know, but definitely looking to string a few more wins together.

Charman: Subiaco is a really big ground. As a running half back it must feel good to have a bit more space to work in?

Yeah, it's exciting. Last week Carlton pressured up, so wasn't able to give too much rebound. (Subiaco is) a lot longer ground, so the likes of hopefully me and Ash McGrath and these boys can give a bit more run.

Round 5 vs Geelong

The gulf in class was highlighted in the second quarter when Geelong captain Joel Selwood and Lions defender Pearce Hanley chased a loose ball back towards the Lions' goal. Hanley led the race but left his feet. Selwood calmly picked up the loose ball and snapped a goal over his right shoulder.

hey naomi, i pulled up fine.. didnt have to run too far in the wet conditions but sore body from the tough contested conditions

Comment From Laura Hi Pearce. You have played a bit on the wing this year, how are you liking it?

loving the wing. a bit more freedom to run around without an opponent and a better chance of getting up the field to kick some goals.

Round 7 vs Collingwood

The Lions' unfortunate night was summed up in the second quarter, when their most impressive player through the opening term, Pearce Hanley, left the ground with a hamstring injury.

Anyone know how bad Hanleys injury is???

I don't think we'll know until Monday. Usually that's when they do scans and announce the results, barring a really bad injury.

Vossy seemed to indicate in the presser that it was minor, and apparently he was warming up to come back on in the 2nd half but they just didn't want to risk it in the end. Sounded like he expected him to line up against GWS, although he did add in that he was surprised Adcock didn't get up for the Pies, meaning he could miss a week or two.

Yeah he was running around the centre square and then sat and did some stretches with Burton during the half time break (looked a bit funny amongst all the aus kickers on the ground). He then ran off back to the rooms. When he came back out he had the red vest on.

Can't be too bad.

Where there any injuries coming out of the Collingwood game?

We had Pearce Hanley who we subbed with a bit of general soreness, so we'll assess him over the week and see how he's tracking.

Can you give us an update on how Pearce is progressing?

Pearce is coming along well. He had a bit of soreness in the hamstring. He ran today. Our main session is tomorrow, so we'll run him again tomorrow and see how he pulls up, and if he gets through tomorrow he'll be right to go.

Didn't have the biggest impact on the game but I thought some of his gut running into space was very good. He must be built out of bricks because one of the lasting impressions for me from yesterday was in the last qtr in our defensive pocket the ball was in dispute with him and a WC player running to it. Hanley went in immensely hard knocked the WC player just enough off the ball, spilt to Golby and we got it safely to hudson.

That impact was a big one, could hear it in row J on the top tier.
