No. My own impression led me to the thought.

That my impression was shared by others led me to the idea that my initial thought wasn't unreasonable.

Did you see Kidd get up and walk away from the bench yourself?

My agenda is not to see people ruined by what I see as mob rule.

I see many who are merely misled by headlines.

I see others who are so anti-Catholic it is frightening.

So what?

By the way, I'm not going to look but I'm not sure I've made much of people having an agenda in this thread.
He wasn’t ruined by mob rule. He was ruined by the criminal justice system, which is designed to protect against mob rule.

You were in the lift and you're basing this off friggin' TV reporters having a convo?

Jesus wept.
Strange strange line of reasoning isn’t it

Don’t trust the jurors and judge verdict, despite all the evidence and cross examination

But believe a bunch of cameramen speculation about the reaction of the judge and using that to base your argument on.

Amazing

It is not often that I say a positive thing about Abbott but he has done the right thing in not commenting on this case.
I guarantee you that is only because he is looking likely to lose his seat.

They seem to have gone out of their way to exclude mob rule, with the media blackouts and all that stuff.

And perhaps people were shocked. Not because the verdict was unsound but becaise such a high ranking official in Catholicism was guilt of such a crime.

I dont get the shock - anyone reading the Royal Commission's findings could see smellsomething was deeply wrong from Ridsdale to Ellis and that much of it centred around Pell.

Fish rots at the head.

It doesn't need to fit the stereotypical profile of the paedo carefully grooming his victims. This seems to be a different profile, one of a man so consumed with his own authority, and with such a dysfunctional view of that sex that he would decide forced sexual interaction is an appropriate method of punishment.

I agree. Accepting Pell's dysfunctional views, he almost certainly would have so "punished" many other minors in his long career before 1996

Lol, I once got really hammered with a mate in Belfast, we ran out of weed and had to get more. Phone calls were made, we had to track his dealer from party to party, finally found them, went into this party through the back door, I was so pissed I didn't really know what was going on, but my mate was keen for us to leave the party quickly.

We left the party house through the front door, and when we walked out, I was immediately confronted by a huge mural of a skeleton riding a white horse holding an AK. A UVF mural. We were in a Protestant part, just off the Ardoyne Road (the Murder Mile).

As we were walking up to the Ardoyne to get a taxi, a bunch of guys appeared in the street ahead of us, maybe 8-10, drunk too.

My mate, who I have known a long time, who is a big lad who can handle himself looked at me with eyes that suddenly sobered me right up and said "If I say run, you run to those lights as fast as you can, and if I say fight, you fight until you can't fight anymore".

I looked over again at the UVF murals on the peace wall and suddenly realised where I was and what I'd got myself into.

That's frightening anti-Catholic.

Not a modern well-resourced fair justice system holding a child rapist to account for his actions, a child rapist who can get a character reference off a former Prime Minister.

(Obviously the guys on the street didn't kill us, or even bother us, but my Catholic Northern Irish mate was scared at that moment, and he doesn't scare easy)

Look it's unusual. That's all.

My sense was at the time he was surprised at the verdict.

In the lift afterwards, a certain Channel 7 reporter said "Did you see Kidd? He went white." Another replied "You don't often see them needing to leave the bench."

There was little disagreement on that day that the verdict was unexpected.
The first trial was 10-2 why would he be shocked?

Richter wants a contempt of court charge levelled at the person who booed him at the lunch brake.

Pell has suffered, got a dodgy ticker and won't be treated well in jail are his next statements
Not sure how he can present that argument. They were on a break!

I like that Scummo wants to wait for the appeal, if only his sense of natural justice applied to asylum seekers as well.

Scott Morrison is a muppet, except without the moral lesson, the educational content, the ability to sing, the colourful character, and he also doesn't have a thumb stuck through his epiglottis...

The ACU vice chancellor gave character evidence aswell as the rodent. Pell must have dirt on them.

And here I was, led to believe that Universities are melting pots of lefty Marxist commie socialists. Seems like Universities are siding with the conservatives like John Howard and Andrew Bolt... <smiley face>

True, but I think the horse had well and truly bolted.

True, that is a complicating factor. There has been much criticism of the Melbourne Response and whether or not it represented a genuine attempt by the Church at redress towards the victims or just a controlled attempt at damage limitation for the Church. Given Pell's role in setting up the Melbourne Response some of that institutional blame falls on his shoulders.

I can only hope that this institutional blame did not sway the wavering members of the jury to lean towards the guilty verdict. The judge in his summing up seems at pains to point this out and warn against the jury taking this line of thinking. Once again the opposite of taking a mob mentality.

Anyway, he still has his right to appeal.

I was there for the prosecution closing and for the verdict. And I have been an altar boy at St Pats in the past.

This verdict won't survive an appeal. Absolutely no chance.

Hate the guy all you like, and I do understand why some do, although I don't share that view of him.

But he didn't do this, and couldn't have done it. And the jury heard at least a dozen altar boys and/or choirboys say exactly that.

Which is why it won't survive an appeal.

But Pell will go inside tomorrow. And will stay there until an appeal is decided.
A legal expert on the radio earlier said (who was at the trial) because Pell did not take the stand it will hinder his appeal significantly

LOL, duuuuuuuuuude. "As a Catholic who is #TeamPell, I think he'll get off and didn't do it."

Was talking to a journo mate about this, bloke is fairly well versed in stuff. His view is there's no way the cops and DPP would have even gone for it unless they were very sure they could get a verdict that would stand up.

Note the first jury didn't acquit.

He may well get off, but really, VicPol and our DPP are literally world experts in investigating and prosecuting historical child sex by Catholic clergy.

They got him. Got him good.
Sex crimes squad have a file on him 2 metres thick
He is evil

Most are, but the ACU guy is a knight of the holy see.

Even if the appeal fails, those who defend him even now will just call it scapegoating, a witch hunt, corrupt legal system, killing an innocent man, etc

There is no bottom for these people
If the appeal fails i doubt that.
