After cementing his status as one of Collingwood’s star midfielders, Scott Pendlebury has signed a one-year contract extension which will see him in the black and white guernsey until the end of 2011.

“It was good to get another year extension and I am just looking forward to the next three years I have with the club,” Pendlebury told CTV on Monday morning.

Pendlebury has experienced two finals campaigns in his three years at the club and believes if Collingwood does not win the flag this year it will be a major disappointment.

“That’s the aim. I am here this year to win the premiership so anything other than that would be disappointing.

“I want to stay here the next three years and really try to win a few premierships.”

This season will mark Pendlebury’s second year in the leadership group, an accomplishment that is not lost on the young midfielder.

“The players have voted me in two years in a row. It’s good to learn off guys like Fras (Josh Fraser) and Maxy (Nick Maxwell) and this year Swanny (Dane Swan) is in the group and he brings something different. It’s just been a good experience so far.”

The 21-year-old is highly touted as Maxwell’s eventual replacement as captain but it’s not something the midfielder is counting on.

“I am just like all the other guys...just trying to contribute this year and ultimately win a premiership this year. That’s our aim.

“I talk a bit during the game. Not so much in a structured format but out on the ground just making sure everyone is in the right spots and knows what they need to do when they come through the midfield.”

If things go to plan for Pendlebury, the midfielder will not only enjoy a few premierships during his career but they will all be at Collingwood.

“I would love to stay at Collingwood for my whole career. I don't want to win just one premeirship...but a few.”

Quote of the day

I'm struggling to remember the last time Collingwood players were so open in the media about their intent to win a premiership. Usually it's, "We will take it one week at a time". I like this open optimism better.

This one is not bad either:

“Collingwood is the club I want to play for as I want to be a one-club player,” Swan told CTV outside the Lexus Centre after the announcement of his contract on Monday.

Love what both of these guys have said today. Showed why they are both in the leadership group and so important to us out on the ground.

im excited this year is the best shape ive seen the pies in , and there attitude is really good all the players are busting there gut at training and all are very hungry for a flag or a few. I seriously think a premiership is very close by.:thumbsu::)

I just think it is fantastic the players are stating their hunger and talk of rebuilding are gone for a while.

I've heard Fraser, Pendles, Swan and Maxwell say it so far.
Look for Mick to say something in the next few weeks..

He has built his machine....time to let it loose....:thumbsu:.

Dids also said it in that interview he has a few weeks ago...

The next Nathan Buckley

He'll be a blend of Buckley and Simon Black. The Buckley attitude, and desire to better himself... a true perfectionist and leader. But he plays like Black, and will win at least 3 flags. :thumbsu:

I saw him at Lexus doing his workout - it was like the world around him didn't exist... VERY focussed and very committed. Watch this one this year and don't be surprised at the Brownlow count...
