Pendlebury, whats wrong with him?

He looks bigger and slower then last year, I don't think it would be a fitness issue, although he did miss a fair chunk of the pre season due to that broken leg.

He just looks physically bigger and slower then last year, don't know why that would be so.

Also, he still has the rod in his leg, apparently it won't be removed until after this season, as per most breaks in AFL players legs.
 
He's an inside midfielder that isn't being utulised as an inside midfielder. Once one of Ball or O'Bree go, you'll see a sudden improvement.

Right now, I'd guess he's spending less than 50% of his time in the actual clearances, which is an absolute waste.

He's spending too much time on the wings and the HFF where he simply isn't quick enough to be affective and his laconic style just makes it worse. He is our best contested player and the only player on our list who gets CLEAN ball out of the stoppages. With him in the midfield we have a good midfield. Without him in the midfield we have a worse than average midfield.

Wellingham is almost cushioning the fall that is occurring because we don't have Pendles in his proper position as Shazza gets some clean/dashing disposals in the clinches. He has poise that kid but Pendles is a freak. MM is killing his influence. Similar to Lockyer who isn't a backman's aresehole anymore but still a good, clean forward --> Pendles' form is obviously having a much bigger affect though because he is simply a much better player. O'Bree has to go so that the Ball/O'Bree combo doesn't clog the midfield so much that a player of Scott's ilk gets minimal time in there. Beams and Sidebottom can at least play outside if asked and can be part of a rotation but O'Bree is simply not versatile enough to make the team anymore now that Ball is at the club. It doesn't help him that he is a soft clearance player --> those two factors do not mix.

Mdc hit the nail on the head. Needs to stop getting ****ed around and player out of position. He is a midfielder, let him do what he does best.

Ball was instrumental tonight as an inside mid, I think Obie might be biding his time. We can't carry Obie, Ball, Beams and Pendlebury... It isn't benefiting any of them.

People were saying Ball and O'Bree would compliment each other, but I just can't see it at all at this stage.
 
Agree with the Rusler. Kick O'Bree out of the side and put Pendlebury back in his best role, seems fairly obvious to anyone outside the coaching staff. You have to wonder how much they are jaded in there, I can see the selection committe now, "Aw shucks well I'd hate to leave Obes out he's such a swell guy, I'm sure he'll play well this week, come on give the poor guy another shot"

Yep. I was all for the Ball/O'Bree experiment but now I don't think its the best for team balance. I'm throwing that philosophy away for accountability. O'Bree was terrible tonight. I say O'Bree out, Ball and Pendles at the centre bounce. Bring in an extra running player.

Hard to dissagree with anything you said mate. Maybe as Matty mentioned its all due to the lack of proper preseason? Bloody hope so anyway , we need Pendles weaving his magic in the guts not on the wings.
 
I'm willing to give O'bree some slack given that he still looked crook...

However after supporting him for many years, if tonight is a reflection of what his output will be this year, he needs to be dropped.

He is being utilised as yet another forward who can't kick for goal. I can't figure out why such a sublime kick in general play can't put them through the sticks. Mind you, he didn't get enough of it to be an issue tonight. :(

Whilst I agree it's nothing to really worry about ..... it is rather odd the way he is playing. People can post up about a metal pin in his leg or lord knows why he in playing in odd possies, or, and I'm surprised "his king hit over the summer may have had a bad influence" hasn't been suggested as yet .... but he, as a one touch, clean, matrix-like, does some amazing shit that makes us gasp and want to have his babies (yes even for us blokes) ... he hasn't been doing that.

I still remember the 1st half in the doggies game right in front of me where it was a 2 on 1. Benny J provided the sheppard, Pendles picks up the ball and tries to hand ball back to Benny when he is still shepparding. I was like WTF!?!? .... that was odd!!?!?!?!?!?

Was every it is I want him to stop doing it and return to the elite player we need and know he is.

Hardly an 'inside' midfielder imo. He is never going to be used in the same way Ball or O'Bree is.

He certainly seems a bit off this year. But so does half the team the last few weeks.

His stand out attribute is his work around stoppages. He isn't a kamikaze, but IMO he's definitely an inside player.

He is an inside player, just not a battler. He is better than that.

I wouldn't get too worried, he's looking at the pack like "WTF are these" and the cigarette doesn't even look lit. Pendles' problem is not smoking. :D

Dont get me wrong Invig,i smoke a pack a day myself but i am not trying to establish myself as an elite player of the competition and help my club win a flag.
 
The real problem is that Alex is partially obscured in that shot, very badly framed it was... poor photography.
