18 months into their careers who is
a) more valuable now?
b) (barring injury touch wood) who will have been more valuable at the end of their careers?

Dale Thomas for both a and b.
Very modest of you dale, up until last night i thought that dale was going to be an honest above average player. i didnt voice this opinion because i dont like being cynical towards the youngins. I believe however that i was wrong the kid will be a star, once he finds some consistancy (in delivery, decision making and playing full games).

Pendelbury IMO opinion is already an A grader, with a couple more preseasons he will be alot fitter and stronger and will dominate even more.

I think that pendelbury is better now and will be better in the future. The kid shows no sign of nerves(indicating he is a big game player), has courage, pace for his size and endless amounts of ability and skill that cant be taught (ie outmarking a bigger stronger opponent against sydney, amd just doing what he does). I could sit here and write an 5000 word essay about how much i love the way he goes about it! i want to have his babies!

p.s and i am being dead serious when saying this i wouldnt trade him for judd, pavlich or brown!!!!

The only chance whatsoever of Thomas being regarded anywhere near as good as Pendles once their career comes to a close, is if Pendles career is ruined by injuries. That's unlikely because no one can tackle him. Dal Santo is already a superstar of the comp, but Pendles will be Dal Santo with goal kicking ability, and possibly once he bulks up more able to pinch hit as a marking forward.

The thing with Thomas is he has a narrow frame, meaning he will always be fairly skinny. I initially hoped he might be able to bulk up to Voss like proportions who was also a skinny youngster, but I don't think he will. Meaning I don't think he will ever be able to be a full time midfielder. I could be wrong though, because if he can get something close to that kind of bulk on him, he could be a great midfielder. But even then I don't think he will get to the level Pendles can reach.

Kerr?! at about 23 he will fill out naturally wont be as skinny. will be well suited to playing in and under!

i wouldnt stack pendles with too much weight to play him as marking forward, may lose his agility

Pendles will become a classy, skillful midfielder and Thoams will become a game breaker in the daicos mould.
Very happy with both players, both will become stars and very valuable players for the pies.

I don't know. At the moment Pendlebury is more valuable being a pure midfielder and has had a better season. Both have alot of upside. Thomas will move into the midfield later in his career and I think he could be a Gary Ablett Jr like player, sometimes he even reminds me of Kerr.

Pendlebury at around 85kgs is almost at the perfect size already.

Daisy will be Hird-like for the Pies in the 4-5 years time.

And Pendles will be the prime midfielder of the AFL.

Who will be better ect. I dont care, they can try out playing each other for the rest of their careers to find out, as long as its in the black & white.

Love them both. My two favourite players after Dids and the champ. Play different roles and will be equally important in our push for premierships in the near future.

I think that they will complement each other perfectly over their careers. Pendles will be the pure midfielder delivering lace out passes to our forwards. Whereas Daisy will play forward and then switch into the midfield when we need a lift.

Both will be stars and it doesn't bother me if one is better than the other because at the level they are both going to get to the difference between them will be negligible.

!! At the start of the season when everyone was comparing Thomas to Hird, I said I thought he was much more like Daniel Kerr. Was shot down too, everyone kept saying he was like Hird. I don't really see any resemblance other than that they can both play forward or midfield. I hope he fills out, but just seems to have those narrow shoulders, that doesn't lend well to putting on bulk. I don't think his foot skills are as polished as either Ablett or Kerr either.

I can see Pendles bulking up more and getting arms similar to Tarrant (Maybe not quite as built since he will be a mid, not a key forward). Which means he will be a nighmare match up as he will be able to go forward in a pinch and be a key marking forward with his height.

Thomas is the flair player, his best will eclipse Pendles best but he will also have more 'down' games than Pendles.

Pendles is a classy accumulator, he just gets the ball and uses it well. He is very clever and poised.

I am not going to predict who will be 'better' because they are two totally different players, and we'll need both on form if we are to give the flag a shake in the coming years (and this year!). :D

Class vs Freak?

I reckon both will produce their strengths with consistency as each player gets fitter and learns more tricks to the trade. Daisy especially needs to build his motor. No coincince that he played a blinder after a week off.

Completely different players - To use a comparison of recent teammates, Pendles will be more like Simon Black, while Daisy will be more like Jason Akermanis.

It's impossible to compare their value, because Simon Black will go a long way to ensuring that you are competitive in every game you play, while Jason Akermanis will actually win you games that you wouldn't otherwise have won, but he won't do it as often.

Both are the kinds you need, and we're lucky to have one of each. Now to just add a Michael Voss and we'll be right ;)

Very difficult to call because their styles are so different. Pendlebury is very much a thinker, you can see him try and 'sell' his move well before he executes something else totally, there was a bit of play sat on the wing, when he handballed to the ground picked it up again after breaking the tackle and disposed. Illustrated perfectly his approach.

Thomas on the other hand is a risk taker and oppurtunist with the skills to exploit most oppurtunities, he will use sheer pace and aggression to race out of a pack. These 2 actually complement each other perfectly. Give Thomas a chance and he will take it, while Pendlebury will conjure a chance with unothodox moves, see him put the footy on the ground sat, look at the tackler, pick it up again and baulk around him, pure gold? Probably in the long term you would say that Pendles may become more valuable because he will always have that analytical brain, but that is by no means a given because Dale Thomas will become even more dangerous as his footy brain and body grow. Hope they both keep delivering to current potential.

Why are we comparing them though? they are entirely differnt and compliment each other very well, on top oif the fact we have both of them

Dont exactly see the point of this thread since they are both at collingwood hopefully FOREVER

but i think Dale would have more value now but pendles at the end of their careers

Two class players, both play for us, we don't need to try to rate one better than the other.

Pendles is a class midfielder already, statistically better than Marc Murphy and IMO the better player.

Thomas is a freak and has the X factor. I don't think he'll ever achieve tru consistency because his best is just at another level. The best bet is to make sure his lows aren't too low and he keeps doing the 1%'s he does now so when he turns it on, he burns. Hird is a good comparison but, dare I say it, Carmen with a better temperement may be closer.

Thomas is fire, Pendles is Ice. Thank God and the recruiters they're both on our team.

i think thomas may have something to add to the fact you guys are labelling him a spark player. he is a big game player no doubt about it and lifts in these occasions. i think his basal level of contribution will lift has he matures!
