I post this because a mate's flatmate (and sort of mate of mine) here in Edinburgh has gone missing and its a horrible time for lots of people.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/8595791.stm

Has anyone here had someone go missing like this? Its such a weird thing, going into my local bars and seeing pictures of this guy up and stuff.

Something I don't want to experience, you literally have nowhere to go. you have no idea where they might be, whether they are okay or anything

and you can't prepare for the outcome until it comes

eg. it could turn out to be fine and the person was oblivious people had listed them as missing or of course the nasty end of the spectrum (which for your sake i hope isn't the case)

A friends mum went missing a few years back. She was found deceased in a barn/shed about 30km from where she went missing, about 7 months later. From the looks of it, she had lasted 3-4mths there.

I also have a relative who just disappeared off the face of the earth 20 years ago, after a falling out with his mother & siblings. All sorts of stories were going around about him. About 5 months ago, I was in a shop and they asked if I was a member there (for rewards points or whatever) and I gave them my surname, and they said 'are you Tony or Bobby?'. I said 'Tony' and then asked what address they had for me, cos I just moved. They gave the address, and it is literally around the corner from me. I walked past, and sure enough it was the missing relative. Didn't tell anyone though.

People go missing in Northern Australia (between Broome and Darwin) every year. They often find their cars by the side of the road with the keys in the ignition- and the driver nowhere to be found. It's pretty spooky, im pretty sure this was the inspiration for Wolf Creek.

A few questions because I'm curious, you obviously don't have to answer them.

1. Why was your friend's mother at that barn? Was she taking their against her will, or did she decide to leave on her own accord?

2. How come you haven't decided to tell anyone about your missing relative? Might squash a big burden on a lot of your other relatives.

The general consensu in this case is that Tartan hasn't harmed himself but more just decided he 'nneds some space'.

1. She was being checked in to a psych hospital as she'd had a breakdown. She went there voluntarily, but at the reception she changed her mind. Said she'd left to get something from the car, nobody saw her again. She was living on an abandoned property to presumably have some space.

2. The realtive who went missing was the one likable relative I have, I can understand why he left cos the rest of them are idiots who would only drag him down. He has a nice house, family and car, and I respect his decision to wipe people and move on with life.

Good news. Tartan has been found. He's safe and well and in Newcastle and doing his own thing. Time to leave him be now methinks.

There are some pretty gnarly Noongars in the outback.

I have heard a few stories that would ensure I would not leave Perth without a firearm.

I think most people that breakdown in the outback end up dying from exposure and dehydration because they decide to leave their vehicles and get lost in the middle of woop woop searching for help.

In most cases you're much better off staying with your vehicle as you have more chance of being found by the rescue people.

Not all of them mate.

Bush survival 101.

Take a tyre off your car and set it alight, it can be seen for 100's of miles.

Lets hear them then.

I think you have more to fear from some of the psycho white people roaming around the outback, than from the local Aboriginal population. I'd probably trust a random aboriginal dude in the outback than some random white dude.

Like this case of the German tourist that went around randomly shooting people in Northern Australia. I remember seeing this on that CIA show and it was pretty disturbing stuff.

Of course there was also the cases of Ivan Milat and Bradley Murdoch.
