Peter Dutton - How Long?

The trick with Dutton's immigration response is that it's essentially the LNP's plan too, they set it in motion. And if you listen to what the LNP have all said, it's not actually against immigration, it's that the budget didn't have a plan to accommodate it (neither did they).

It's great for them. Their nuffies hear the racism they want to hear that Dutton loves to feed them, but from a policy perspective, they're not saying much at all (as usual, because they're conservatives).

Will bolster votes in Qld, and, as usual, sound like racism to Victorians. IMO, Dutton will never live down the African gangs thing, since it's been reinforced so often and regularly with his dog-whistling.

They didn’t even have a plan to train the kids from Peter costellos baby boom.

Encourage people to have more kids, then cut tafe. I suppose there’s always conscription

tbh they probably would have just redone the budget projections to show minimal population growth and trusted that by the time of the census showing it to be wrong everyone had forgotten

because the public are stupid and have the memory of goldfish.

We can't keep putting hectare upon hectare of land underneath Single-family housing developments with no retail close by and nothing but cars for transport.

We need decent compact housing with very long warranties against defects, on reliable train lines with frequent services and good links to other PT and bike infrastructure.

Big house blocks with expensive water, power and sewage connections and huge expensive road networks need to be done away with if we want sustainable growth. Some of these old estates far from city centres need to be dug up and replaced with denser, walkable neighbourhoods. LNP are not about that "socialist" stuff.
don't know what the answer is but loathe the multi-story buildings going up all over the place. ugly and stuff the infrastructure. perhaps some thinking outside the square like placing some penalties on peeps who live off airbnb. incentives for peeps to lease holiday homes.

I've gotten more interested in this watching my lefty YouTubers.

You can go denser without too many multi-story buildings. Smaller blocks without setbacks, not much parking, small retail blocks with flats above, and good, frequent public transport can make a huge difference.

Even those people in the red area - which is a bit denser housing than the old house blocks up the top of the picture - would probably drive to shop at Aldi. To walk there is to go up to the main road, then navigate car parks and service roads inside the centre.

This is just designed to pump out carbon when it is entirely avoidable.

I think they are doing this kinda thing in North Melb where the Lost Dogs Home is.

There is a powerful lobby group behind shopping centre complexes, retail superstores etc that don't want to see people doing their shopping locally on a high street.

And CBD property. The lockdown and continuing WFH has proven we don’t need their idea of ‘development’. But they are pushing back hard. The previous trends would be a disaster With 6-7-8 million living in Melbourne. It would have been highly unlivable and unproductive

The CEO of a commercial property group went on radio to brand young people selfish for working from home, because it was 'hurting CBD businesses and hotels'. Unironically calling other people selfish when she wants to actively harm people's living standards, force people into long commutes or exorbitant inner city rents, just so she can make more money from commercial rents. Selfish cow.

There's a missing middle density in our cities. There are plenty of European countries with height limits to a few stories which can increase housing availability without being oppressive, and massively cheaper infrastructure costs compared to sprawling further.

It shouldn't be a choice just between suburbs looking like either Box Hill or Clyde.

Living in the western sprawl where life is a constant "I haven't been down this 2-lane road for a year, why is it six lanes and where have all these houses come from", the best compromise seems to be Williams Landing. New railway station with a bus terminal next to a moderate Woolies + specialty shops, and they are building 4-5 storey blocks on the other side of the road with ground floor retail and apartments/offices above.

The Chieftain must be on the advisory committee or something. All the surrounding paddocks / wetlands are covered in a dense carpet of mass produced boxes on minimum-sized blocks of land, who either drive to the station or clog up the surrounding roads.

God he’s a joke. The RWNJ dog whistle is his only weapon.
Surely by now even the most brainwashed morons have spotted the irony of multiple millionaire politicians using the word elite as a pejorative?

Right wing politicians with their fat salaries calling other people "elites" while buddying up with billionaires, major corporations and taking their money

I always thought there was a reason ANZAC worship ballooned during Howard's tenure. It seemed to venture far beyond silent commemoration and on into cult-like deification. Then I got it. No hope? No prospects?

You mean Senator Cash?
LOTO that can't be PM sounds like something the Vic Liberals would definitely consider doing.
