I am not sure if there has been talk on here about him, I would be suprised if there hasnt been as I think he would be a great person to bring back to the club.

I have heard his name bandied about a little lately, he has a great record and is a South Australian.

I feel he would be a better option than Viney as I feel he would add more in regards to match day coaching, which I feel is NC's down fall. We dont need more fitness types at the club, we are sorted in that regard.

What are your thoughts? For mine, he would be perfect.

Sorry if we have had a thread like this lately, I was away for a little bit.

I think he has 1 year to run on his contract and highly unlikely that he would leave with Longmire taking up the Saints job.

He, Chris Bond and some-one else had interviews yesterday. Longmire is a strong favourite, would probably bring the sydney attitude to st.kilda, which would be gold for them.

I still think we should play hard ball and try and get him.
I agree & we have the $'s which may make a difference. Would be of huge benefit to bring someone with Jonas' experience as he has been under successful coaches like Roos & Blight.

Would be my 1st preference.

what makes any of us think we know who would be a good assistant or not?
So are you suggesting Jonas doesn't have a good record as an assistant?

his track record is pretty good, 3 flags is it in the AFL? 1 in the SANFL?

Obviously knows what he is doing, I would prefer someone with his experience as both an assistant and a head coach than some ex player who hsant coached.

Well technically he has 1 AFL flag as an assistant and 1 in SANFL.

He was only a runner with us :p

Jonas has a really good reputation. He has a good coach with the Centrals. He has shown to be a good developer of youngsters with his work as the state U18s coach and he is very highly regarded as an assistant coach in AFL circles.

From all the asistants out there, I would like his appointment the most.

Has been successful at every level he has chosen to participate in.

Centrals as a player
North Melbourne as a player
AFC as a runner
Centrals as a coach
Sydney as an assistant

.......let's keep the ball rolling......;)

it's pretty clear what I am saying.

how on earth would any of us know how much of anything is attributable to an assistant coach. I don't, and neither do you.

Jonas seems to be a good candidate, but this stuff about him better/worse than viney. who can tell?

He is proven assistant with one of the best opposition coaches in the AFL & success seems to follow him most years.

Viney doesn't have the same runs on the board IMO.

But granted the opinion that counts is AFC & I'm confident they will find the best assistant available.

all that's all I mean.

it's a lot easier from the outside to view a head coach, to view the assistants you need an insiders perspective.

Also, important to get the right mix - coaches with different strengths.

So true.

I don't think any of us thought Craig would be as good as he has been.

I didn't, thats for sure.

Yet most here bagged the insiders for appointing NC, the assistant coach at the time, claiming to have greater knowledge about NC than AFC management did.

News from Mike Sheahan on SEN with Dwayne Russell today - Saturday.

Jonas more than likely to leave Swans.

Will go to Adelaide or Port Adelaide.

They are both in a battle for his services.

Other news - Spida to go to Swans or St Kilda. Might have implications for us if we go after Fosdike.

Lyon (Ross) or Horse Longmire likely to get Saints job. Might be time for a clean sweep - may aid in Jonas coming back to Adelaide.

I would prefer Jonas.

Comes from a winning culture.

The Paul Roos influence is very strong. The force is very strong!!!

We need these ideas which are successful and not that far away from ours to help improve our performance.

Jonas - now been associated with Blight and Roos - two of the best thinkers and also knows how Craigy operates.

Jonah has also been a successful coach in his own right.

We may even get both.

My preferred line up would be .

Neil Craig - Head Coach
Peter Jonas- Chief strategist - to work closely with Craigy to work out strategies before and during game. To fire off suggested moves to Craigy during game.
Paul Hamilton -defensive coach
David Noble. - forward coach
Todd Viney - midfield coach

Alan Stewart - part of strategy group and works with young players. Also on Recruiting team.
Ben Hart - assistant to Stewart to work with young players. Mentor to all new first year players to the club.
Matthew Clarke - understduty to Mick Redden for one year
Michael Redden - Ruck coach for 2007 only.

Peter Jonas was on 5AA a little earlier. The first question asked was re his future with the comment made to him that his name was being linked to the Crows as an assistant coach replacing Pyke.

He took it out of the rumour stage into the fact stage IMO with his response.

He said that he and his wife are weighing everything up as to whether they do want to return to South Australia - an answer which implied that he has been offered the job and is considering it.

From the way he was talking, I'd expect an answer from him one way or other in the next few days.

This week on 5AA Craig said that he expect to make an announcement sometime next week. So if we are to listen to all the rumours it would be between Jonas and Viney.

I rate Jonas and would be stoked if he was the one we got. I know Port are interested in him and rightly so but I would be pretty disappointed if we didn't sign him up.
