Somebody who knows for sure will either confirm/deny, but I'm pretty sure he hasn't actually played a hell of a lot of First Class Cricket - like, less then 30 matches, including Tests?

Dermie has played 21 first class matches (including Tests).

As for improvement; Warnie reckons he'll be the best bowler in the world in a couple of years - that's good enough for me.

Aside from that - love him too; heart as big as Phar Lap, aggression, passion, keeps going and going - he's a champion. He's the Katich of our bowling line up. Said it before, will say it again, the way he went after Steyn, and the way he stood up to Steyn's return barrage, was awesome, it made him, and it really set the stage for the Series.

Only complaint so far - first innings, he hit Bopara in the throat, which was great; but the chin music should've continued. Should've been bouncer after bouncer after bouncer - hit them, hurt them, keep going at them.

Siddle has played less than a dozen shield games I think. Squeezed in 2 shoulder reconstructions too. My brother was playing out at his district club when Siddle started, said it was clear he'd play at the highest level.

He hasn't played a lot of cricket. If his body holds together he'll be a cracker.

I love Siddle.

Young, good pace, just keeps charging in all day, can move the ball and he gets wickets consistently.

Can't ask for a lot more than that - and his capacity for improvement is huge.

Don't really agree with that fast-tracked thing either. Maybe to start with, but he didn't take long at all to justify his position - and he's clearly there on merit at the minute.

i love this bloke. The way he goes about it is what i like most. Got a great combo with MJ:D

has alot of upside this kid. I reckon he will be a ten year playerr

I'm not sure I agree with the fast tracking thing either. His form preceding his call up was outstanding; he was bowling beautifully with great menace. He was clearly ripe for test selection, even though he hadn't played many games.

What surprised me was he got called up straight after his shoulder reconstruction, but hey, the guy's the real deal. Not fast tracked, just recognised by the selectors. Although he was probably aided by the brace of retirements and injuries too.

Siddle is a gun.He will get better and he will take loads of wickets.I love the fire in the belly he has.Siddle and Mitch to lead the attack we will be smashing teams for years to come. Both are young and we will have ups and down games but watch out world.

Let me preface this by saying I'm a big an of Siddle - he's got a massive heart and will run in all day, no matter what, and I believe he has a big future.

But, at present, he is struggling to have any impact what so ever.

This summer he is averaging around 68, and has only taken 26 wickets in his last 9 Tests.

A batsman with similar output would (should) be dropped; Siddle should be too. No shame in it, but send him back to the Domestic Comp until he starts performing.

Bowled very well in this match, but seems to have the Gillespie like knack of not picking up wickets.

He should probably get another run, but he is only one poor test match from demotion.

I'm starting to have my doubts as to whether he will make it long term.

If Hilfenhaus was fit, then surely Siddle would be the one to make way.

With Hilfenhaus still out though, I doubt they will change the bowlers.

Why did you post this as a question.

He is underperforming.

As I've said many times before it's Siddle's inability to hold a consistent length which is the major worry, his bowling is basically acting as a pressure release.

Cant have that at test level.

If he could just get wickets off rubbish balls that Bollinger got he'd be fine. Just needs a few of them good balls to get a edge to the keeper or slips (barring North) then he'll get more confiidence but I'll probably get shot down for backing him up once again so let me have it.

I think he'll be fine in the longterm, but taking into account how little first class Cricket he's played, a stint back in the domestic comp should be good for him.

Out for Hilfy when the Haus comes good for mine.

*cue guy who says he is batting better than marcus north.
Funny you should mention North as the OP did say a batsman performing as badly would be dropped, yet North survives

Is having a very lean trot at the moment, alot of bad luck as well (Marcus North comes up again) but with no pressure for his spot he will keep it, all he needs is one good game and the wickets will follow. In England he was slow getting going but it got better and better, last summer he bowled poorly in Perth, got a few wickets in Melbourne and was brilliant in Sydney, all about confidence and probably due to his inexperience is the reason for requiring some luck and confidence building.

Has had a good run and may need some time back for Victoria, but I am not sure Australia has that luxury as even if Hilfy gets back for NZ, he would still go as reserve bowler

The simple solution would be to leave him out of the one day side. I don't know the fixture but surely the overkill with one dayers would give him the chance to play in a couple of shield games for Victoria. Then reassess where he is at for NZ.

Yeah, he has got a huge heart and has been playing good cricket for us, but not lately. But LOL at the first post.

i like him but it's pretty clear the only thing keeping him in the side is hilfy's injury, and maybe the fact that the next in line bowler mckay didnt take many wickets when given the chance.

I like him too. He can be genuinely menacing. I thought he bowled without luck in the first innings. I'd like him to spend some time with Dennis Lillee to bring some accuracy and variety to his bowling. He's only young in fast bowling terms.

Tries hard, seems like an alright bloke. Not a very good bowler. Definately needs first class cricket to get his mojo back, rather than just getting caned by batsmen everywhere. Very lucky that Hilfenhaus got injured.

I think it's Bollinger that's lucky Hilfenhaus got injured. If Hilf had stayed fit then the rug wouldn't have got a look in.

Would have played at Perth and then Siddle would have been dropped for Boxing Day
