Peter Siddle

He was never dominating state cricket. He was picked on potential, he hasn't delivered. Time to go back to state cricket and grow a brain.
If you're talking List A then I agree - I never saw him as a potential ODI bowler (Clint McKay was the same). I was more referring to FC and consequently Test cricket.

I enjoy Michael Slater as a commentator but he surely has to stop praising Siddle for his efforts. By Slaters' logic I should be playing for Australia because I will try really really really really hard too.

Siddle is not a wicket-taker. He is not a match-winner. He is not consistent either so I'm not entirely sure what he is doing in the national set up.

It is fashionable to bag our selectors, in fact most Australian cricket fans are unanimous in hating on them. But, Peter Siddle is a good example of how dumb their thinking is.

Siddle was picked on the back of a very promising f/c career for the A team, bowled well in f/c cricket in India and was rewarded with a Test gig where he did pretty well initially.

For some reason the selectors decided this means Siddle=LOI bowler even though he has never really been much chop at that format for Victoria.

They persisted in playing him and Hilfy through that whole pointless ODI fest last winter (even though both are Test bowlers) and both of them were subsequently seriously injured. Notably, as soon as they started playing Siddle in LOI his form went seriously downhill.

Now he comes back, does well in one Shield game and here am I thinking it will be good for him to play a few first class matches, take some wickets and push for contention in the Test side (where he is not an automatic selection btw) and what happens? He is playing LOI again, bowling all over the place, is he meant to bowl quick or contain?

Is not a LOI bowler, should not be picked as a LOI bowler he is a bowler who should be considered for Tests if in form and fit. Rant over...

just read the article in the australian about siddle edging out doug for the gabba. wtf?

"Siddle has 60 wickets at an average of 31 from 17 matches but has not played since last January."

in another thread i think it said only 63% of siddle's wickets were proper batsmen (1-7), the lowest rate of anyone except hauritz, which is understandable cos its a spinners role to take out the lower order. confirms what we already knew, that siddle is below test standard and his stats even ordinary as they are are over inflated by cheap tail end wickets.

so infact he's dismissed 38 proper batsmen in 17 tests (32 innings). a tick over 1 per innings. just not pulling his weight and defo shouldn't be a walk up start after a long injury lay off.

stuey clark's ghost must be haunting hilditch and co. can't believe they kept him out the team for siddle when he came back from injury before last ashes. think he was number 1 ranked test bowler at the time (if not he was right up there), experienced veteran of english conditions, destroyer of england's top order in the previous ashes, living link to the team that whitewashed them. just unbelievable. if you gave him 10 overs to bowl at monty panesar he woulda asked how many ways do you want me to get him out?

He looks like a bowler without a plan when he runs in...boundary ball or dot ball. Weird.

Apparently Stuart Clark tried to take responsibility for our bowling attack in the leadup to the last Ashes; told Nielsen and Co that guys like Hilf, Johnson and Siddle would be lost in England if they fronted up with only a tour game behind them.

Apparently, he wanted the bowling group over there playing County Cricket to get used to the local conditions and the Duke ball, and was ignored, and may have argued his point pretty blunty after that point.

I hate our Selectors.

He was wrong on that one... And unfortunately right on th other two :(

Personally I don't think that he has enough zip to be going around at international level anymore, unfortunatley because it would be great if he was still around to help the bowling group and actually lead it.

johnson has pretty of zip not much help. clark's the only bowler i back 100% to hit the top of off if asked.

I agree completely i just feel if the pict is not assisting then he doesnt have the penetration required.

For Example

Thats the only first class game he has played this year.

Article in the Australia suggesting that they are warming to the idea of playing a "fit" Siddle ahead of Bollinger at the Gabba.

England are $2.05 to retain the ashes (win/draw series). Will be loading up if Siddle is in the XI at the expense of Bollinger.

Had to bump this thread.

Stayed at home before work to watch the opening overs.

2 balls down leg in the 1st over, 10km hr slower then he was at his debut, barely moving the ball off the straight.

Poms must be laughing

Oh FFS

Credit where it's due - full ball jagging off the deck.

Problem is - he doesn't move the ball enough - nor look threatening enough.

MJ rubbish as well - but has form in taking wickets with tripe.

I'd be very surprised if Siddle is still in the team come the end of the series. However don't take that for me wishing him to fail - i want him to rip the poms apart - i just think it's highly unlikely - as it is with Doherty.

We are relying heavily on Watson and Hilf

Says it all really.. All the doubters, suck it up princesses- go join Kate in the wedding isle with your arm around William!
