Since phantom drafts are the topic of the week, i thought i may aswell do my own for round 1, with a bit of info to boot.

Credit goes to Footydraft.com and theorangeapple for info.

Pick 1: Richmond - Brett Deledio (189cm, 80kgs)
Midfielder/Forward

Deledio is the type of player that can fit into any team, the complete package if you will.
The only query with him amongst tiger fans is will he pull a "fiora" and not physically develop.
I severly doubt this will happen at all.

Pick 2: Hawthorn - Richard Tambling (181cm, 74kgs)
Midfielder/Flanker

Hawks won't turn down a midfielder as good as Tambling.
Pace and agility reserved for comic books, but nowhere near as versatile as Deledio and needs to physically develop aswell.

Pick 3: Bulldogs - Ryan Griffen (187cm, 85kg)
Midfielder

Bulldogs have enough KPP, although some aging, have enough young ones coming through the ranks.
Griffen as a class act who could play Round 1 2005.

Pick 4: Richmond - Jarryd Roughead (193cm, 85kgs)
Centre Half Forward/Centre Half Back

KPP is what Richmond now needs, especially one that can play at both ends of the ground.
Very young, victorian, aggressive, i can't see why Richmond would pick Franklin over him.

Pick 5: Hawthorn - Lance Franklin (196cm, 89kgs)
Centre Half Forward

While Hawthorn's KPP problem isn't as big as Richmond's, it's still there.
Very Risky, however athletic ability is astonishing, and could easily be able to Ruck, which the Hawks wouldn't mind either.

Pick 6: Bulldogs - Angus Monfies (180cm, 70kgs)
Onballer/Midfielder

Simply put, the best midfielder available at this stage.
I can't see Bulldogs taking a ruckmen, as they already have two young developing ruckmen in Minson and Wright.

Pick 7: Hawthorn - John Messon (200cm, 88kgs)
Ruckman

Hawthorn would rather a ruckmen in 2006 rather than 2008, Messon probably only needs a year, Wood will need years to be able to ruck in AFL.
Messon also has a level of stamina not usually seem in Ruckmen.

Pick 8: Adelaide - Cameron Wood (204cm, 86kg)
Ruckman

Key factor here is that Wood is from SA, and Adelaide will need a good ruckman in a few years time.
An excellent tap ruckman who is still very young.

Pick 9: Carlton - Fabian Deluca (203cm, 96kgs)
Ruckman

Carlton have two ruckmen, French (29yo) and Deluca (22yo).
Add in the fact that Fabian is Adrians' brother, you have a very predictable pick.
Fabian will need a few years, and even if Carlton get Knobel, it will work out well for Carlton having a late, mid and early 20's ruckmen on their list in a fwe years time.

Pick 10: Collingwood - Ben Eckerman (178cm, 77kgs)
Onballer/Midfielder

Collingwood need midfielders with speed, he is the best one available at this stage.

Pick 11: Port Adelaide - Ryan Jackson (186cm,77kgs)
Onballer/Flanker

Port need to start repleneshing their midfield stocks, after losing Stevens, Carr and Schofield.
They'll even go for Jackson or Meyer, but Jackson is younger and a bit more developed physically than Meyer.
Jackson is a bit of a risky pick though.
Port have enough young talls (Chaplin, Gilham, Pettigrew) and won't take one at this stage.

Pick 12: Richmond - Matthew Bate (190cm, 85kg)
Centre Half Back/Full Forward

Bate is a tall that can play at both ends of the ground, and has plenty of scope of improvement due to his young age.
Needs to grow a couple of cm's though so a little bit of a risk.

Pick 13: Melbourne - Alan Toovey (190cm, 78kgs)
Defender

Melbourne want talls, Toovey is very young and although being only 190cm only needs to grow a couple of cm's to play KP in AFL.
Will take a bit of time to develop though, a bit of a risky pick.

Pick 14: Essendon - Danny Meyer (183cm, 70kgs)
Midfielder/Wingmen

Honestly i have no idea what the Bombers would want.
I'm simply going on the fact that i've read a few times that Bombers need a midfielder, preferably with some speed.
Meyer would be the best available at this stage.

Pick 15: Melbourne - Heath Grundy (190cm, 86kgs)
Center Half Forward/Full Back

Again Melbourne will take a tall, and since Grundy played full-back in the SANFL, Melbourne will draft him ahead of the likes of Willits and Kirkby.
He is also a good CHF though but will need to grow a couple of cm's.

Pick 16: Richmond - Jordan Lewis (187cm, 87kgs)
Onballer

Considering Saints and Port are unlikely to take a tall, Richmond will probably run the risk of one of Kirkby, Willits and Williams being available at 20.
Lewis is an aggressive onballer who could easily become a cult figure at punt road.
Could play next year which is what Richmond probably need.

I think its hopeful of you expecting us to let all of Bate, Meyer & Lewis drop considering the good talls have gone at this stage. Also the injury would have to be a concern...this pick doesn't seem to make a lot of sense for Port.

Considering Saints and Port are unlikely to take a tall, Richmond will probably run the risk of one of Kirkby, Willits and Williams being available at 20.
Why are they unlikely to take a tall? Port would certainly have a tall on their list at either #11 or #19.

True, but i would simply be guessing St Kilda and Brissy picks.
Good point, this year after about pick 15 its a lottery. I think clubs will just get the players they value highly compared to other clubs, and most teams will be happy what they end up with.

I don't know whether Essendon will agin go for midfielders, as that what they have got the last few years. They have Winderlich, Dyson and Stanton all ready to become permanent members. i think this year they will go for KPP, as they are short of them besides the main ones

With the bulldogs taking two midfielders in Cooney and Ray last year, I would have my doubts if they would take Griffen and Monfries this year. I reckon they may look to grab a key position player with one of there top picks.

But aren't you guessing every other clubs picks up until then.

Besides Essendon, no.

I didn't have a clue what Essendon would do, that's why i said i had no idea.

I thought about the Bulldogs but they have a fair few young talls,a few mid age to old talls and would be looking to build midfield Strength.

Bandy, Grant, Darcy, Rawlings, Street, Minson, Wright, P.Bowden and anyone i've missed are the players that even Roughead or Franklin would have to try and get a game ahead of.

Probably not Street though.

You called it a "Phantom Draft" not "Factual Draft" So, all your picks were a guess.

I think you need to look a bit harder at the Bulldog's list. I would be disapointed if they didn't take a KPP in the first two picks.

Grant, Bandy, Rawlings and Morgan are almost finished or broken down quite a lot. Darcy is class, but not a CHF or CHB, Bowden in not a KPP, Wight is a few years away, as is Walsh. Minson is still learning to ruck, and Skipper is just coming on now. No nead to mention Street.

Compared with Midfield stocks, West, Cooney, Ray, B. Murphy, R. Murphy, Johnson, Gilbee, Eagleton, Gia, McMahon, et al, all ready to go and all filling holes while there is a lack of KPP depth.
