I'm sorry but Phil Jaques should be in the team every time Australia plays an international match, one day or test.
I know fitting him in is difficult but every other team in the world would find a spot for him.
He has to be in the side.

Oh no.

Is bigfooty obsessed with this guy or what?

The bloke is a star. The team needs to part like moses and the red sea for him to take his place.

If he isn't opening in every game of the world cup I'll barrack for the Pakis.

When he keeps racking up the runs like he does, he's kinda hard to ignore.
Brad Hodge was ignored. Michael Hussey was ignored until late.

You're right. Doesn't mean the Jacques should be as well. He's made a mountain of runs in both the one-day and 4 day game, and in England as well.

When you consider the uncertainty in the one-day line up at the moment, and the whole Katich vs Watson debate, it would seem foolish to leave this guys name out of any discussion on the make up of the team.

There wouldn't be too many cricket fans around that wouldn't agree that Hussey and to a lesser extent, Hodge, should have been given a chance earlier.

And there were numouros threads about why they should be in team....why should Jaques be any different?

I'd argue Jaques has been more dominant than Hodge and Hussey were when they were battling for selection.
Good fielder too.

We have better options to open (Hussey, Hayden, Clarke).

Plus the WC is around the corner. We'd be stupid to bring him in now.

Bollocks. Now is the time to get him in there. If an Alien came down and started following Cricket they wouldn't understand why Jaques isn't playing.

Husseys to valuable down the order...why move him.

Hayden...hes injured at the moment and his best is behind him.

Jaques has piled on the runs, opens the batting and deserves the chance.

How can you possibly say those 3 batsman arent better openers than Jaques? Hayden has proved himself and Hussey and Clarke are in the top 10 ODI batsman in the world.

Why move Hussey and Clarke when they are doing the job where they are?

Hayden proved himself and then was axed some time ago (before being reinstated temporarily.)

Jaques averages 45 with a strike rate of 93 in Domestic ODI's.

He has piled on runs in Australia and England.

He is ready to go....

Why are Clarke and Symonds considered ahead of him?

If he ain't the best batsman in Aus that ain't already in the Aus team then something's wrong

Don't think he can open at Test level but he'd be a destrctive middle order bat
Selection is not always on merit, sometime it depends on who you are mates with and form in ODI. Punter has influence at the selection table, regardless of what Hilditch et al say.

Dean Jones thinks that it's Ponting's not the selectors' decision to have Watson opening. It seems he does have influence and especially where Martyn is concerned. Martyn is his best mate and he pleads his case for retention.

46 not out at lunch. If he scores another ton and leads the Blues to victory, he should be an automatic selection for the Ashes.

oh please! gets Jaques out for ffs!

in that case if Tait gets him then he should be an automatic selection for the Ashes (which he should be anyway IF the Australians decide not to play MacGill) seeing as Jaques is so good and everything.

He'll get out soon after lunch. He has looked **** for the Aussies every time he has played for them (even that debut 90 or whatever it was featured alot of luck) and I'm sure the world class SA bowling attack will take care of him within 5 overs after lunch.

You heard it here first!

Jaques has to fit into selection first. It isn't about how he is going in domestic cricket, it is combining how he is going in domestic cricket and how ?? ?? is going in Int'l cricket.

He had his chance in both forms, and couldn't keep his spot. All he has to do is continue his amazing form and wait for a fallout.

Exactly right, how long did it take Boof to get a game for the Aussies? Other names include Cox, Siddons and Hussey. Dominating domestic doesnt give you a right to play for Australia.
