Opinion Pick 1... is Cam Rayner

Can Rayner is the type of guy who wants to play “on broadway” and Brisbane is off broadway. But Cam Rayner also really wants to be no 1. In the draft class.(despite what he says in the media) Should he get that - it’s one tick off his list of achievements goals then move onto the next. If we do pick him, fans should not get too attached as he will want to get to his goal of playing for a big Vic club on the mcg regularly in front of as many people as possible. Not in front of 17k at the gabba

I'm 100% on the LDU bandwagon. He's got everything we're looking for; big body, nice overhead, clean off both feet, agile with a touch of speed and can hit the scoreboard. I'll happily be the lead ambassador with LDU, even to the point where if/when we draft him I'll get his number on my back. Kid is going be a star

God I just hope whoever we draft is committed to the Lions. Pretty hard to rise up the ladder when your top draft picks keep going back home after 2-3 years and become stars.

Isn't this year when live trading of picks can happen on draft day? Or am I mistaken? Could we see that deal with St Kilda for #1 for a couple of sub 10 dradt picks go through?

I thought it was proposed that it start next year, although no decision has been made.

LDU seems like a perfectly good choice but wouldn't be surprised should you take the craftier Dow.

Rayner is the pick for me. While the top 3-4 prospects all look like quality he's the one that looks like a potential superstar. Would hate to see him playing for Carlton or something in a few years winning games off his own boot. If we choose him at 1 and he leaves after his initial contract it will be the straw that broke the camels back, the afl will have no choice but to react.

I know it has been mentioned a few times by me and a couple of others.......but I really feel getting kids up there who know each other somewhere along the line in their junior days is crucial FOR US..

..doesn't seem to be an issue for most other teams, but it seems to be for us.....the same goes for getting our academy /homegrown Qld kids....we need them.

....our needs as a club, like it or not, are different.....and all those little things I've mentioned are absolutely vital if we are to overcome the go home (for whatever reason) factor..

e.g Drafts 1-4 or 5 won't be a massive difference so if one of them has that connection to any of our players or is from Qld, that would tip it for me.

It's all a risk anyway, so I would look on that as a bonus.

It's definitely not in at this draft but I think you're right....it's being looked at for next year but there's nothing definite yet

Just reading the tea-leaves and with Rockliff gone, I thought you may head down the path of a pure mid.

It also wouldn't surprise should clubs get just a little spooked for Rayners lack of tank.
They may not, but generally speaking, clubs are somewhat reluctant to take chances on players with their premium picks, although if the talent is too good to ignore, then the 'risk' may be somewhat more palatable.

If noble is a man of his word, then it has to be Rayner. Draft for talent, trade for needs. Rayner is imo the most talented, is an afluent speaker, confident and has a degree of mongrel.

Pick 1: Brisbane Lions: Luke Davies-Uniacke
Others: Paddy Dow seems like the only other contender for the No.1 pick, with everything I hear suggesting Rayner isn't the Lions no.1 (he isn't the consensus No.1 around the place either)

From Bishop's latest phantom draft. LDU and Dow seem like the only players we've actually been linked to by anyone with info recently, with LDU looking like the obvious favourite. There's a lot of love for Rayner on here at the moment, but just be aware that what our recruiters think might differ.

Actually I’m new to BF but has the draft poll been running for years??? I’d be interested to see how the Brisbane Lions BF team according to the poll results would stack up against the recruiters team!
