I wonder if not having a head of recruiting will mean we will go for the safer fan option in Hill. Gives you no backlash for years while they develop and also makes a couple of your other employees happy. Running the risk he slides is a risky game and their would be backlash if he ends up at the slime and is a gun....

That would also explain bringing in four mature players this off season.

Hill I can't get a feel for. There was a point last year when I thought there was little difference between him and Rankine in terms of talent. Now there appears to be a chasm. Not sure if that is injury/form or just my poor judgement last year. Some of the stuff he did at the champs last year was unreal though and I don't think he would have lost that. So I tend to think he'll end up a damn fine player but I am too risk averse to put my money where my mouth is on this one.

Why is Ian hill a better player than Sam Sturt or Stack who should be available at 30?

From memory he wasn't rated as high because he didn't get much of the ball, but his combine results were fantastic. Went about 27 or so?
Who did we pick up before him and at what number?
Just seems a similar situation, some were keen because of the name and probably the combine results.
He certainly ended up way better than his draft number and presumably a lot of players drafted before him.

Brad went so late because he was scared of his own shadow in colts. It was only that Hawthorn had the luxury to take a massive punt that he went as early as he did. Ian’s junior form is leagues ahead of Brad’s.

I’m not sure he is but I’m hearing that Hills application and commitment is better than Stacks. I might be way off but I think Sturt could end up being one of the best of this draft.

Spare me. Most of these players struggled to get on the ground, let alone be influential in a game. Our best mids have been over 190cm or under 180cm to date. People saying iHill is higher risk and we should go for the about 185cm inside mid from outside WA. Since we don't have 2 top 5 picks this year, show me the evidence for your risk-assessment in light of the above?

I think we are safe with getting either a mid or forward. The only player in our range at 14 that isn't is Quaynor, who is Pies NGA. We are all but guaranteed a mid, mid/forward or pure forward with our first*.

Hill said to my mate when they were out in Northbridge Sat night that his shoulder had restricted him heaps this season and expects to drop down the draft.

He apparently really wants to go to Freo but won't be phased heading east. His mum apparently wants him to stay in Perth.

I expect our guys would have very limited knowledge of Sturt. Certainly far less than Hill. But, assuming the hype is on the money, he is a great fit for us all the same.

O'Reilly played a blistering quarter in the finals, nearly decided the game off his own boot. He definitely has some talent. Freo will need to decide where and if that translate at AFL level.

O'Reilly kicked 5 after half time to win that game for EF v SF in the colts elimination final....his coach played him in defence in the first half and SF led by 3 - 4 goals at half time....in the 1st Semi O'Reilly played at FF from the off and kicked his 1st goal in the final quarter, EF lost by 2 pts....Heard O'Reilly's opponent for that game was Carter....

Ian Hill hasn’t yet received invite to national draft. They usually invite 20 people who they expect to be drafted in the first round.

So that would suggest he’s not being looked at enough and that 14 won’t be going on Ian Hill.

Not sure he falls to 31. If he did that would be brilliant.
