That goal he kicked in the trial was impressive. Running at top speed he collected the ball clean as a whistle and run into an open goal. That’s talent. Many would have fumbled the footy
If you watch the replay, he was way behind his man and just hit the nitro button and took off.

He can also slice and dice in traffic in the middle. There was a play where he kicked it to someone just back from the centre square and followed up and I think we got a score out of it but when he got the receive, he jetted off.

I think he will be dangerous and our players will be helping him break lines this year.

The backtracking has already begun. The talent has always been there. He has the attributes to be a serious player once he matures, and that was obvious last year just as it is today.
The revisionist history has obviously started too. He showed more on Friday than he did in every game of his first season put together.

He was better in the intra-club last year with a BOG performance, hopefully he can put it together in the real stuff.

Poor kid is going to live in the Shadow of us passing on Murphy Reid for no good reason for his whole career.

He probably never even gets close to Murphy’s year 1/2 output his entire career too.

Murphy was looking like Jimmy Bartel out there last night and is probably a top 50 player in the comp by years end.

I’m hopeful Berry becomes good, he’s got the profile to be a Dylan Moore/Zac Bailey type but god Reid looks good. Great point of difference with Brayshaw and Serong who are Boak/Wines style. Murphy Reid is kind of like Robbie Gray early days, soo much class, evasiveness and footy IQ. Goes to show how strong that draft was.

That's true & particularly given we traded up for him. Many forum members wanted Murphy Reid. I didn't follow any of the lead in form so had no idea.

Chad said on SEN that Berry was picked at Ken's insistence.
Well IF (& its a big if) this is true then once again the club has been spineless in regards to Hinkley. An outgoing coach should not be insisting on anything. The future coach should be stating their priorities on player type & working with the recruitment team. I would be concerned if Carr allowed this to happen.

It sucks balls a bit right now. Just have to think Richmond had 4 chances to take him, crows took Sid Draper at 4, eagles took Bo Allen. There's no question Murphy has been the best player in that draft to date, but who knows what happens in 5 years time.

Murphy Reid is a prodigious talent in the same mould as Pendlebury, only shorter & a step or two quicker.

As for Joe Berry, you can definitely see the potential. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him become a regular 20D, 2 goals type of player in the coming years.

There were exactly zero 20 disposal 2 goal a game players in the AFL last year.

I feel like people on this board wildly underestimate how rare 2 goal a game small forwards are. There were only four across the entire comp last year. There was only one who had 2.1 or more goals per game.

20 and 2 is instant AA selection for a small forward so I would be happy if Berry got to that level. Those types of players are extremely dangerous. Zac Bailey didn't even reach that. Bailey was 20 and 1.6 goals a game.

The other player IIRC who got it or was close was Kysaiah Pickett who played hybrid midfield and forward. I jus checked and Kossie was 9 possies overall short. Chad Wingard in his AA selections would have been on it or super close. Obviously Nasiah has a big chance this year depending on where he plays.

As he matures, I see Joe predominantly playing more as a midfielder, but you’re right 2 goals per game might be a bit of a stretch. He certainly has the attributes to hit the scoreboard on a regular basis,

You don't want to put limitations on the young lad but he definitely has a few weapons that could push his goal tally up. One of the most interesting watches for the year, for sure.
