I literally just gave 3 examples (there are plenty more) where the better player overall in their career did not win the rising star.

Again, not guaranteeing that will happen in this case, but one swallow doesn't make a summer.

You hung your statement on the examples of Rising Star winners. I dont give a crap about them! It is a totally useless award, and I wouldnt even have known who won this year's without your implication that it was Reid.

So, I was replying to your comment in bold ... "But what?" you say. But, right now, Reid is a far better player than Berry ... and by a country mile. This is not based on the RS award, purely based on his quality of play through the year.

Point taken re the future though, both have another 10 years plus to show their wares, and I think Berry will end up a solid player, but I suspect that Reid will end up a superstar of the comp.

Time will tell.

I remember that first preseason of Josh Sinn looking similar in clips put out from the club, then the first Hamstring went in the internal trial chasing a bloke, the rest is history. Hopefully after a solid year last year and a full preseason this year, the woes are behind us and we have two of these types to inject into our midfield mix.

I know he was drafted us a small forward who could go into the midfield. I don't know if he'll ever make it into the engine room but it'll be fascinating to see where he ends up because I think there's a genuinely good wingman in him.

The overawed part will sort itself out with experience, and hopefully the confidence will be helped by not having a soulsucking head coach who got off on throwing small forwards into the meat grinder and dilligaffed with lolly teeth for half the season.

People were creaming themselves over him this time last year as well so not going to get too excited yet. His two problems last year were being clearly overawed in the first part of the year, and then completely bereft of confidence whenever he got a go later.

In the second half of the year he played zero as a small forward.
He was given a better run at the ball and looked a bit better but honestly it would have been hard to look worse.

Berry has come back much leaner, is a smooth mover with ball in hand, agile, a beautiful left foot kick, & is surprisingly quick.

Last years showing certainly wasn’t ideal as most of us expected more from him, but gee whiz he reminds me so much of Ed Richards
