Best available ?? This is a total myth. There is no such thing because players are on rated by opinions and opinion can be swayed by favourites characteristics and needs of the list.

Anyway. My reading of our needs midyear was a backup CHB.Egan has come along and done this so now , I think we need speed in the ball movement and more talant up forward.

So the guys Ive seen that I like the look of are-
Ben Mckinnley ( a Russell Robertson type). He kicked a goal in every game he played this year in the U18's, he would give us an alterantive to be so reliant on Dog , hes that sort of player.Have a look at the way the games going and it becomes more obvious that clever half/forwards are needed.
Dale Thomas, might be gone by 15 now after his GF effort but maybe not.Is like Lappin or a Davey crumbs the ball and knows where the goals are.Can take a grab like Lappin.
Ryan Jackson, might be considered too slow but is good inside/outside, good kick etc.

Apparently a guy like Varcoe might get looked at due to speed but havent seen him play
Travis Varcoe is a dead set sheepdog

There's a thread on Beau Muston on the draft board. He sounds like he could be worth a punt. Has anyone done a profil on him yet?

Some notes I've managed to gather, although still waiting for some more indepth info on the boys kicking skills etc ("possesses excellent skills" is too vague for my liking:

Beau Muston

Height: 188cm
Weight: 71kg
Club: Murray Bushrangers/Shepparton United

Still a top 10 chance IMHO
- Solid all-around game
- Generally an outside midfielder (more receiver than first dibs), possesses excellent skills
- Has great pace, a nice overhead grab, versatility
- TAC stats suggest he has the ability to drift forward and be a goalkicking midfielder
- Glandular fever in '04, knee reco during '05, hard to say how long into next year he will take to be fit
- Kevin Sheehan rates him highly

Stats

(vs Nth Ballarat): 27 disposals, 17 kicks (15 eff, 2 ineff), 10 handpasses (7 eff, 3 ineff), 7 marks, 2 tackles, 1 goal, 3 behinds

(vs Northern): 22 disposals, 15 kicks (13 eff, 2 ineff), 7 handpasses (7 eff, 0 ineff), 2 marks, 5 tackles, 2 goals, 1 behind

(vs Dandenong): 20 disposals, 11 kicks (10 eff, 1 ineff), 9 handpasses (9 eff, 0 ineff), 4 marks, 6 tackles, 1 goal

(vs Oakleigh): 19 disposals, 10 kicks (10 eff, 0 ineff), 9 handpasses (9 eff, 0 ineff), 6 marks, 8 tackles, 3 goals, 1 behind

(vs NSW/ACT): 31 disposals, 19 kicks (18 eff, 1 ineff), 12 handpasses (12 eff, 0 ineff), 14 marks, 4 tackles, 4 goals

(vs Calder): 25 disposals, 12 kicks (10 eff, 2 ineff), 13 handpasses (13 eff, 0 ineff), 6 marks, 4 tackles, 2 goals

(vs Western): 31 disposals, 17 kicks (17 eff, 0 ineff), 14 handpasses (14 eff, 0 ineff), 6 marks, 2 tackles, 2 behinds

Totals/Averages: 7 games, 13 goals (ave of 1.8 a game), averaged 25 PPG (14 kicks, 11 handpasses), 6 marks a game, 4 tackles a game

im pushing for two aboriginal boys around our mark

Travis Varcoe and Jarryd Oakley Nicholls- Were bound to take an aboriginal player soon and these boys are as good as u will find, Varcoe is a pacy onballer forward (AIS scolarship and missed 18s through injury Kevin Sheehan rates him very highly), were Oakley Nicholls is a utility type player who has pace agility and plays taller than he actually is had a reasonable carnival and has played senior footy despite his light frame this was because he dosent mind a bit of aggression.

Others

Richard Douglas- runs 2.9 for 20 meters so has pace is apparantley a very well skilled on baller who will go a bit lower because hes only just 179 cm.

Nathan Jones- Looks awesome another smaller type midfielders who will probably go a bit higher because of his ability to play well in important times, 18s carnival and tac cup grand final.

Matt Spangher- Great name and really impressed me in the 18s carnival, with harley having on going injury problems and I feel that Egan dosent haveth class to be our number 1 chb i think that we could take a gamble on spangher and use him sparingly with guidance from scarlett and harley could be worth a punt.

Darren Pfeiffer- Looks good in the games ive seen can play down back and do the disciplened things, and also has the ability to play on ball, could be compared to a joel corey maybe. Played senior footy and looked good in the wet, pretty tough and gets in the bottom of the packs when needed.

Apparently he's been told that we've got too many of his type already.

I hope my mail is wrong, but the source has never steered me wrong before.
i doubt the kid has been told that! do you know him? from all reports he has been told nothing.

Never met the kid in my life.

You can doubt it all you like, i simply passed on the information i'd received.

Like every other rumour, you take it for what it's worth.

what we need is pace!!!our midfield looked very slow just before finals. i know with monica coming back n hopefully tenarchie getting better will help but i think the club will look for genuine pace!

I also think we need to grab the best midfielder available, Koula and co. are barely adequate replacements when/if our top-liners go down ...

A bloke that could also rotate down back and play tight on the small forwards
would be an asset too - any candidates anyone can think of that fits the midfielder/small defender role ?

Its hard to say who fits that mould, tight defenders usually come from nowhere like David Johnson.Milburn, for instance, wouldn't have been drafted with half back in mind, he has grown into it.So , with mainly midfield in mind but like Dasher who could play other positions I'd would say this kid would be a quality addition to our mix :

Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls
Details:
Club: East Perth
DOB: 9 Feb 88 Hgt: 186cm Wgt: 74kg
Position: Midfielder
Natural Foot: Right
Honours:
Under 16 WA 2004
Under 18’s WA 2005
WAFL Colts Team of Year 2005
2005 AFL Draft Camp Invitee
Statistics:
U18 Championships 2005: 3 games, 1 goal, average 7.3 PPG
Draft Camp Results:
Agility 7.97 sec (1st)
20m sprint 2.85 sec (2nd)

Background:
Oakley Nichols has got all the attributes that a recruiting officer would look for - pace, skill, agility, height, athleticism and dedication. After the WAFL 16s carnival he would have been one of the first picked for the 16s team as he dominated some games playing ruck, full forward, wing, rover and centre half forward. He looked a class above and proved to be one of the hardest players to match up on. In the National 16s carnival he had a good but not awesome carnival as he did in the 18s this year. He played very well in colts level footy and held his own in senior football. His stakes have risen through out the year as more people have seen him, he could develop into a player that people pay money to watch, he plays an exciting brand of football and could be compared to a Robert Murphy type player. Impressed in the agility and 20m sprint tests at draft camp.
Strengths:
- Versatile
- Plays tall and small
- Good Leadership skills and commitment
- Played Senior football which is good considering his light frame
Weaknesses:
- Still pretty skinny may need a year or two in the weights room
- Has not shown full potential in national carnivals
- Has had shoulder and collarbone injuries in past
Footydraft.com comment:
Oozes potential and obviously recruiters have seen it too judging on his growing popularity and draft camp invitation. Is a strong chance to go top 20.

He's the type that could be picked up as a mid but grow into a offensive rebound type accross half back or he could give us the much needed quick run into the scoring area. Either way if we draft him, we wouldnt think we would see him in the side till 07
