Pick 18 - The Discussion/Speculation Thread

It is almost 100% certain we will get Scully with Pick 1.
It is also very likely we will get Jack Trengove with Pick 2. (Though Morabito and Butcher are very much long outsiders, 20-1 if i were a betting man).

So that would mean we would be taking 2 Midfielders with our first 2 picks and feeling is we want another KPP. Most probably a KPF or Swingman type. While others suggest that we should just draft the best available or it is trade bait.

Personally I think KPF. As i am too lazy to re-write this post i will just refrence this one to get the ball rolling:

Those are three main ones that people seem to think will still be around the 11-20 mark although I have heard talk about Panos going top 10. I'm the same as you though, I'd be happy with any just so long as we can pick one of them up.

Jack Fitzpatrick is another potential one but he's a ruckman/forward who seems like a gamble, he was unbelievably rake-like when I saw him at the U/18 Championships and did seem to go missing quite a bit but could potentially be a very good player but could just as easily be a flop.

While other players do exist lets here them..

I thought Fitzpatrick was ordinary in that game, if you were basing the selection solely on these clips (which you wouldn't) then he'd be last in line for me.

The way I see it the only talls worth us taking with pick 18 are Butcher, Talia, Panos, Vardy (ruck) and Carlisle.

I think Carlisle is the one who might just make it and dont think any of the others will last.

I think theres a decent chance that theyll all be gone and Griffiths/Fitzpatrick/Black (and anyone else) wont be worth using pick 18 and we'll end up with another midfielder.

Ok it will be a decent midfielder if all these talls are picked but I would prefer we get a tall.

Maybe not for pick 18 but a young bloke called Serhat Temel has had an extremely good month of football at under 18 level. Has kicked 8 and 7 goals in the last two weeks (both finals?).

Is a real bolter kicked around 45 goals for the year maybe worth pick 34, 194 centimetres, could be a smokey. I googled his name for some info, there has been a bit of talk bout him on demonland and bigfooty drafts and trading boards.

Given that, I'd definitely put pick 18 on the table for a trade. And I think that trade week this year will be far more active than in the past.

If pick 18 isn't worth pick 18 in a regular draft (but more 23-24) then why would it be worth pick 18 in a trade? Obviously when clubs make trades this year they will keep in mind the relative value of draft picks I would have thought and we may not be any better off anyway. I'm not saying we can't get a decent trade with pick 18 but I don't see where the guaranteed advantage is. Also if we are after a tall KPF prospect with pick 18 there still should be a few to pick from.

I'm not in the habit of making player comparisons based on single clips but I must say that Carlisle reminded me a little of Tippett with the way he attacked the ball in marking situations - looked pretty switched on. Not saying that Carlisle would necessarily be as good or versatile though.

Those three boys definitely get a lot of love.

Panos while not the big strong anchoring Tippett like fullforward type looks very good. Good hands, Good leads, and can hold his ground in contests. Tick for him.

Carlisle is interesting. Doesn't look natural smooth but i think he's one who's picked up the game late. Has done well and looks good if he has.

Seen zero of Black but a lot good things said about him.

Even with Scully and Trengove, if Gysbert or Christensen or maybe a Sheppard comes up, I would take them.

Can't have too many quality midfielders.

Melb will be very lucky if a quality KPP falls through to 18. Melb may have to consider trading to get a young up and coming KPP.

I think were in need of a fwd to go along with Watts, Wonamerri, Jurrah, Bate. (Miller???)

Bit of hearsay, but have heard Carlisle is a bit of a spud from some kids that have played on him. Even though he kicked 5 in that game, didn't look like he really dominated. Not sure what his form has been like in the TAC cup, anyone?

Would love to be proved wrong if that's what we're looking like getting in the draft. Still very early to tell what we will be doing yet, so I shouldn't get too worried just yet me thinks.
