From meeting Robbo and having him involved in a community camp a while back, he is an enthuisastic organiser and has contagious energy. Has great social and people skills and full of encouragement voice. Would probably be the first guy to put his hand up and assist in drills and helping out at training or to do a tough job on the field. Very likely captaincy candidate really. Just the impression that I've got from the guy. The guy has the perfect attitude for AFL football really. Just my impression.

I thought he slipped to 40 in his draft because he bombed out in his interviews?
I love Robbo and he is capable of inspiring others, but do you honestly think he'd be the one to put as the figurehead of the club?
Just quietly, Laids is the one I think has fantastic leadership about him. Maybe not captain, but certainly deserves a gig in the leadership group.

I actually think Robbo would be a great, albeit unorthodox, candidate for captaincy.
We already know he's willing to stick his neck out for his teammates (both literally and figuratively) and I reckon if he was given the responsibility to lead the team, he could really go the extra mile and thrive off the responsibility.
Just the impression I get from him, could be way off.

He did but has grown up an awful lot since he was drafted with the help of Judd and the leadership group plus he spends a fair bit of time with Ken Hunter.
Agree with the comments re. Robbo's maturity. I really like his attitude. Very team, and club oriented. Thought his bruise free comments during "that interview" last year were fantastic. Even though it was the last thing the Carlton officials wanted him to say, he was just being refreshingly honest. So delighted at how he's progressing. Plenty more upside left.
Might have got him on the right meds too??

Now, if Robbo could only learn with this new found maturity to HAND PASS instead of blazing away with his kicks...
His aggression and attack at the ball are second to none but he must learn his limitations And become the role player he is meant to be, which is, to look after the gifted midfielders and feed them the ball, always...

Dead right Parrot. In these days of the need for fast, accurate kicks to get out of defence and to break through zones, and, crucially, to avoid turnovers, you can imagine that a potential recruit's ability to kick well is the first box ticked by the recruiters. Could well have been why we picked him ahead of other more fancied candidates.
I like the look of him, and I like that he is a long term prospect.
Yeah, kicking is extremely important. This is because heaps of teams aggressively ultraflood (e.g. Pies, Weagleland, Swans, Saints, Hawks, Crows), and to beat that without precision kicking is near impossible. Here's a classic example. Chris Yarran kicking into a typical Collingwood 5 Versus 2 ultraflood. That was pinpoint execution to Walker. Not sure if there's anyone else in the AFL with that skill level though, but it illustrates the point.

Players that start with a technically flawed kicking style struggle. Examples on our list include Walker and previously Grigg. Walker somehow fixed his kicking issues. Grigg never did and got even worse last season and became a liability.This is pretty much why Ratten insists on draftee's being high quality kicks. Bootsma ticks that box. Rowe and Buckley are pretty tidy as well.
