Toast Pick #22 Welcome to Carlton Joshua Bootsma

i know nothing about him, seems like a long term project, we are in a situation where drafting ready made stars is not possible. Will be one to watch for a while to see if he gets where the recruiters visioned he might get. About all we can ask for imo is project players so this may or may not be a good move. Time and plenty of it will tell.

Furious does not describe how I am feeling atm, cannot believe it!

Because you put how many hrs into looking at every player in the draft?

Always the funniest time of the year how people who know a handful of players think they are the draft expert. Always complain about anything.

You dont know what the club wants, you dont know what potential this kid has, you dont know what role he will play.

Ill trust hughes over some complaining person who knows bugger all on the kids in the draft.

190cm and 74kg
gym yes
get him on the club musashi and add 20kg of muscle

at 190 and say 90kg he is versatile, with a good hoof....could be anythng
WA so you know he has balls and will work his ass off

No need to get nasty boys and girls...

The draft was super THIN and if you think we didn't pick well, you're all kidding yourselves...

Anyone that was picked after 20 was going to be a GUESS...

For those who wonder why they picked him, he is Bower that CAN kick long and straight and can CATCH it...!

bloody hell.... Kersten, Murdoch, Marksworth, Elton were all still available. Dont kno if im happy or not.. havent seen enough of him to make a comment. but IN HUGHES WE TRUST

He must be good given that we passed those pkayers you've mentioned

A very strange decision when Kersten/Markworth/Elton/Grigg were available, we have so many tall half back flankers already, Hughes tends to go for athletes more than pure footballers and has not had great success with in the 20-50 draft range, would have thought in average draft we should have focussed more on list needs and tall half back flankers always have ample supply available.

Geelong win a premiership and end up with Kersten/Murdoch, we did well in last year's draft but not much to get excited about at all in this draft.

You guys sure are quick to sink the Bootsma in ;)

I'm trusting he can play given we used our first pick on him. On that count i'll trust our people as I've never seen him.

To me though why another running half back? The very last thing we needed at least IMHO.

EDIT: Listening to Hughes. Described as a midfielder and plan to use him there. That's more like it. Apparently quick and gets his own ball and uses it well. Apparently played CHB (at 74kg?. That weight right?) for his WA club in the finals but we've get him to play midfield. Happier with that if that's the case. At 74kg we're reincarnating Simmo!

I lol'd. ;)

After watching his highlights video, Josh appears to be a 'that kick out of defence' player. Seems to have pretty good decision making skills, but I'm hardly one to comment after watching a highlights package.

Appears to be a Harry O' style of player in that he spoils, crumbs and runs rather than the likes of Yarran that win the pill on the ground.

On that edit, I'd be interested how he would go in the midfield with his height.

Why would we pick an athlete and not a footballer?

Bootsma has football in his blood like Gibbs, Lucas, Collins, Buckley, Murphy and Waite.

His father played for Freo.

I liked the idea of Kersten, but we know what we're doing. :thumbsu:

Grigg - plodder and massive kick...We have O'Keeffe
Elton - see Ryder's lack of balls
Markworth - says he can't kick

Bootsma may be coverage for the injury prone Bower who wanted to leave.

Bower only got a year.

A project to work on. The likes of Duigan have a limited shelf life and defenders with pace and a good boot are handy.

Good luck to the kid and for those who arn't happy, pull your heads in.

Welcome to the Blues, Boots...ma!

Hey, lay off the kid. At the AFL draft camp he tested well and is very quick AND he can kick long and accurately. We need HBFers who can kick well. In a couple of years time when Bagpipes is ready to retire, this kid will step up and be a very good player for us.

Instead of the WOOF, it will be: BOOTS ...... MA! :D

Disaster by the looks of things, oh well I guess there is the rookie draft to find some gem. Wayne Hughes love of Fremantle skin and bones types, no wonder they were a joke. Why on earth we let Shane Kersten A powerful forward who is strong overhead and a long kick go to Geelong to make them better. I don't believe how he slipped, mind boggling. I don't understand recruiting another Tiller who built like a stick. Good luck to Josh but a midfielder would have been better if no key talls.

Going by what Wayne Hughes said on SEN, the club sees him as a midfield/winger, could be a good choice.

Oh look!

Another regular NQR.

...?

Robinson, Davies, Mitchell, McCarthy all look good

I went early...lol! Should've wait until I heard from our people.

At 190cm while we got him to play him midfield seems he'll be versatile enough to go back, and maybe at that height, even forward at times.
