Pick 29 WCE to pull a Surprise

He's a half forward and midfielder. Beep tests and repeat sprints are important key indicators of his ability to play those positions at the elite level. I won't deal with claims of draft tampering.

Perhaps, but have they proven to be reliable indicators?

I don't think the speed (level 15 is only done at 4.3 m/s) and nature of activity (continuous with low variation in speed rather than intermittent with great variation in speed) of a beep test come close to reflecting the fitness demands of an AFL game.

Players will also improve fitness levels with the right application to training.

I'm not saying we or another club have been involved in draft tampering, I'm just saying it is a possibility - rules are bent in just about all industries...

most recruiters have their own value on players for the team which means they might see a better picture of where the player fits into the team as opposed to journo`s or bf views.

This draft is very deep. If it wasn't compromised it would be a 5 round draft no problems. The quality of players in the back end of the draft is pretty good, it's when you sell out of those lower picks that you start over looking best available picks for needs picks.

Im not sure if Westcoast actually draft to a particular critera given the volume of players that can't effectivly kick a footy.

Indeed. With the heavy rotation in the modern game, I think the ability to put in repeated sprints is more important then pure endurance.

I'm still confused about you taking Brennan when he could've been pushed onto the rookie list

*sigh* me too :(

me to lach...me too.

The word I have received is that Collingwood had committed to Brennan and we were forced to go back and have another look to trump them. Makes sense to me as to how it all went down. One thing I am sure of, is we don't know all the workings at play that caused this to happen the way it did.:)

Disagree there Snoop Dog messaged me yesterday, telling me Collingwoods recruiter Derek Hine wanted Brennan and had told him they would draft him if still available.

Apparantely Michael Brennan then went back to WCE and told them Collingwood would grab him, so WCE had another look at him and thought he was worth pick 62.

Personally think its a good selection.

Lach72 you should stick to other footy subjects, cause when it comes to judging youngsters your a hack, or a really stupid troll.:D

Pretty happy with Lycett didn't think he would slide that far, thought he would be ports 16 since richmond picked up Conca.

Nice to pick up the second best ruck in the draft:thumbsu:

Was hoping Tom Derickx would slide to the rookie draft but Richmond grabbed him first.

Hopefully Rhys Cooyou or Isiah Stevens is available in the rookie draft.

Which probably would have meant they wouldn't draft Kirk Ugle and he'd be available to us at 62...

I know who I'd prefer.

I'm not suggesting Brennan can't be a good player, merely that his type is superfluous in our squad.
