Player Watch Pick #5 (2018) - Connor Rozee (AFL Captain)

I feel a bit sorry for the lad - being given the number 20 puts some weighty expectations on some very young shoulders.

However I am curious from someone who has seen Rozee and a young Wingard train, what do you consider their differences to be in terms of strengths and weaknesses, or just plain style. Even attitude, although that would be a very early call. It should be remembered that Wingard was not always the entitled appearing player he became, happy to coast by on his talent and give his all only on those occasions when it appeared to suit him (maybe that is harsh on him even as the player he was when he left, but those were my impressions).
As someone who attends a lot of training sessions, the main difference that I can see between the pair is that Connor often trains, whereas Chad often didn’t.

Do you really think anyone who sees Rozee in the number 20 this season, and possibly the next, won't instinctively be drawing comparisons with Wingard??? Every move he makes, every breath he takes (sorry for that) will draw comparison's between the two by almost all supporters watching, I guarantee it. Not just because of the number, but because both were such high draft picks, the circumstances between Wingard leaving and the expectation that Rozee will be expected to bring a similar skill level and x-factor to the club...

Sure, everyone will cut Rozee slack after giving the comparison comsideration. But the instinctive reaction of most will be to Wingard, the all australian in only his second and fourth season at the club.

All of our draftees this year really do look like kids. I'm one of the more firm believer that when you're ready you're ready regardless of how much you look like you can bench (Westhoff don't argue on Darren Glass 2007) but I'm not expecting immediates from any of them in 2019 or even 2020.

I reckon Butters might pip Rozee for most games. Got a great feeling about both of them but Butters looks a special talent

I know when Chad played his first game for us my first thought was “Jeez this guy’s way too short to play in the ruck!”

Haha, I was going to ask how the ongoing comparison of Paddy Ryder to Gavin Wanganeen was going but thought that might of sounded a bit facetious :p

We didn't take Rozee with the pick we got for Chad. So not a direct comparison of the deal we made. Burton and Pick 15 is the standard.
The pick 35 from the hawks got us from 6 to 5 and i reckon if g.c had that 5 which they ended up with they would have picked rozzee so it helped lol . But I agree no direct comparison.
