Off field surely doesn't matter all to much when he was rumoured to go top 20.

Getting him with 58 is an absolutes steal! Get excited!

Lets hope he isnt as ******** as our other blood nut in Jackson, and turns out more in the mould of other blood nut players- like Voss, would that be asking to much?

DANIEL CONNORS

Height-Weight-Age

182cm-77kilos-22.09.88

AFL LIKE

Simon Black ( SILKY ) with Luke Hodgish FOOTSKILLS

CHAMPIONSHIP POSITION

HFF-HBF-WING-ONBALL-KICKING OUT . Wish coaches of the under18 teams would put players onball that are likely to be darfted instead of mature aged men with no chance of being drafted all in the hope they can win the championship title. Professional recruiters must get so ****ed with the champiobship sometimes and the process.

AFL POSITION

RUCKROVER-CENTRE-QUARTERBACK(at worst) - will make it as a very very good centreman/ruckrover but if that fails could always be used in the new AFL position, Quarterback/HBF.

KICK

LEFT - 50+ m distance. 9.5 / 10. Spearing left foot laser kick. First rate balance and timing with kicking

HANDBALL

9 / 10 – awesome by hand and will only get better when he builds on his 77 kilo frame. Once he adds power to his skills.

NOTES

this kid just oozez class, lightly framed midfielder who rarely ever wastes a possession. Must be noted early that this kid has a killer left foot. No up and under kicking on conners, just a powerful left foot with great kicking action and awesome results. If this kid falls to us in the second round I will be doing cartwheels in my loungeroom.

plays both midfielder roles very well. Would have loved to see him playing a whole game onball. Awesome at stoppages and everything he does is clean and SILKY. He seems to do everything at ¾ pace, but have put this down to the fact he has more time that others on the footy field.

Watched him at the champs run in2 a contested situation at full pace, pick the ball up one handed. Sprint away from pack and deliver a perfet kick of his left foot. 5 minutes later he repeated his one hand pick up and delivered a spot on handball 20 m to a teammate in space. Conners just has that touch of class about him.

Not ur huge possession gatherer. But would take 20 of his touches up against 30 of just about any other onabller in the draft.

Skinny frame, so upside is there. Another 10 kilos on his frame and he adds more power to his foot and hand skills. Just finished watching the replay on foxtel, commentators likened him to ellis. Nothing like ellis in my opinion. He reads the play well and is very clean like ellis but conners has it in spades over ellis with his kicking and hurt factor on the opposition.

WEAKNESSES

Tackling need some work and needs to add 10-12 kilos to his frame, but scope is there for him to improve in these areas.

RANKING – 10 - AND MOVING UP (SUBJECT TO CHANGE)

To say that this kid sounds like an absolute gem and a steal at 58 would be somewhat of an under statement.
He also rates him higher then Xavier Ellis who was taken at 3 last year:thumbsu:

The Orange Apple comments

Pick 11 – WBS – Daniel CONNERS (22/09/88) – 182cm/77kgs
Conners is a cool midfielder, who is intelligent, good user but also wins the hardball; a nice mix for a player to have. Not lightening quick but has sufficient pace for AFL. Can lift a cog during a game, both in terms of acceleration and tempo. One of the most complete players in the draft, no box left un-ticked. Has ability to play in defence and in the midfield. While some might say the Dogs need talls, it hasn’t stopped them taking midfielders before talls in the past. Conners really suits the Dogs style of play. He can play anywhere, has good pace and skill. He will add to their band of midfielders who can play anywhere on the ground and run opponents off their legs. Armitage and Proud could also be in their thoughts as well as talls like Nathan Brown and McKenszie.

Weaver's comments...

7. Daniel Connors (Geelong). Connors has the appeal of being able to play both inside and outside. In close he has quick reflexes, vision and awareness to thread handballs through gaps only he sees. Outside he can tuck the pill under his arm, carry and kick with penetration and accuracy. Also has a handy high-mark in his locker. Not completely dissimilar to Heath Black and should be a solid third / fourth best midfielder in the AFL for 150 games. Ordering the midfielders is always tough but Connors should be one of the first to go.

Apparently he has a shocking attitude, but still has all the tools to make it. Hopefully a lot of teams will be left with a red face on this kid

From what i've heard on BF, which i try not to influence my thinking, and seeing him at the Champs, i am absolutely wrapt with this selection!

Could prove to be the steal of the draft. Great work Miller.

One of (IMO) the steals of the draft. I saw Connor's play a few times. Even though I didn't see him as top 20 like Weaver did (but Weaver knows more than me so hey) he's surely a steal at 58. :thumbsu: That's a pick that Weaver would be and should be happy about.

good. pleased with that pickup as I was with Cleve.

Unlike Reiwoldt, who is toilet

you are going to be one of those gooses arnt you????
the kid hasnt even been a tiger for 24 hours and you keep ribbing him
give him a chance to prove himself

although if he does set the world on fire i bet you will be first one giving him wraps and saying i always knew he would be great
do you actually support the tiges or what??

i can understand if we picked up a recycled played but we didnt

Don't mean to be a smart arse but for future reference it's geese...

Yeah, by reports we've got a steal right here.

Attitude doesnt worry me personally. We have a lot of 'friendly' players. A bit of grunt wouldn't hurt one bit.

Weaver only likes to poo-poo

Just call them like I see them.

Connors definately shapes as a bargain. He is not as flashy and eye-catching as some. He will rarely make the highlight real - and I'd compare him to Polo or Newman in that respect.

He is one of those guys who can get 20 touches without you really noticing. Also some of his best stuff is in traffic. His handballing in packs is quite good. He also can execute his kicks with someone on his hammer. Very few kids consistenly hit targets when being chased from behind.

He can play inside and get clearances. He can step out onto the wing and be a running player.

Not slow - but is not a pure speedster either (say Polo pace). Is a good height for a modern midfielder. Is not super-light and so could probably pop up for a handful of games next year. Also a little tougher than some junior midfielders - will put his body on the line - although he is no grunt.

Uses the ball well enough to play down back. Can snag a goal or two from the 50 so can play HFF. Has a deceptive leap for a non-KP type and can take a Pettifer-type hanger when he has permission to go for the speccy.

I rate him higher than Polo at the same age - and Polo started in Coburg reserves because of his attitude problems. We are having good success with getting into the heads of some 'difficult' cases P.Bowden, Tuck, Pettifer. So not too worried about any rumours (which are probably BS anyway).
