Theres a video. All the context you need.

In no way is that the full transcript I was referring to, but it provided all the context I needed to confirm it was a stitch up of the highest order.

The quote in the article says ‘let me go to Collingwood’ and at no stage did he say that in the video. Simply garbage journalism, IMO.

#34 Ed Newman

Inside Midfielder/Medium Defender (Mentone Grammar/Sandringham Dragons)
12/03/1999 | 183cm | 80kg
Previous ranking: N/A

Scouting notes: Was one of the best player in the AGSV school boy competition for Mentone Grammar and was Australia’s 13th man on Boxing Day and Newman is a high level underage cricketer. Possesses a very clean left foot kick and is smart at the contest. Can play across half back and rebound the ball if required.

Last month: Made his TAC Cup debut with 10 disposals and three clearances against Oakleigh Chargers. Against the Dandenong Stingrays, he won the first centre clearance and propelled it long inside 50. He finished the day with four centre clearances to go with his 21 disposals and six marks. Didn’t play on the weekend due to sickness, but should be a certain starter in TAC Cup Finals.
He's getting drafted by Victoria Bushrangers.

That OR Hine has told we will pick him at 6 and he is Worried Freo might Pick at 5
Freo won't pick him at #5. He knows they won't, it's a message to us.

It's why he hasn't been linked to Freo at all because all those in the know, are aware Freo told him they won't draft him. They're picking two mids with #2 and #5.

Considering the value placed on Lever, Naughton could be a solid pick, fills a need and the fact he can use both feet to kick im ok. If he works out, can't see him ever leaving based on the bedroom pics.

Sounds just like Jarryd Blair!

Oh wait, not the bedroom pics you meant....

It is interesting what clubs tell players though, I spoke to Cedric Cox the day before the draft last year and asked how he'd feel going interstate? He replied "It won't matter" I said "Why's that do you know which club will pick you?" and he's like "Yeah the Western Bulldogs (Pick 19) said they will and Essendon did too (Pick 20)" He also mentioned Geelong (Pick 25) had told him they were going to pick him if he was there.

So you can imagine he was a bit shocked heading up to Brisbane. Now whether that's him misunderstanding what the clubs had said, but the fact he felt certain they had committed to him, made it interesting when he wasn't drafted by them.

Obviously in the top 10 it's a bit easier as it's less predictable. But if Rayner dropped, I'd be furious with the club if we didn't pick him (again next to impossible happening). But basically clubs commit to players in some way, shape and form and then shit happens.

I've only just realised Freo are trying to emulate us from 2005 (same early pick numbers). They obviously secretly feel they are 5 years from a premiership.

Freo - learn from our mistakes and save yourself the trouble of drafting 'Thomas'. Obviously they don't know which player will be like Daisy so just stay away from all the top rated players.

Daisy was a big contributor in our flag year and 2011. Regardless of what he became on and off the field, he was a star those years.

Whats the go with the Brayshaw kid, one of the local papers reckon the lions are looking at him with there first.

So we have said his is in Real Consideration for us at Pick 6 and he put the Pressure on us saying he would LOVE to come to Collingwood

Ross Lyon said in 2011 he was the Best Player in the AFL

Remember Essendon taking extra time with that pick, we rated Ridley extremely high

So someone barracks for Collingwood.
All well and good.

But surely clubs barely register that as any real consideration.

I'm thinking only some supporters buy into all that.

Pick the best player you want, and let the chips fall where they do.

We wouldnt have won the flag without Thomas.

I’ve been told that it happens all the time. Players get told by clubs that they’ll get picked up at a certain pick by a club, then a player they didn’t expect to be available slides and that’s it. I do have to say though, Cox was pretty unlucky for it to happen with 3 clubs!

There’s no pressure on us at all Dave. Hine won’t give a shit what the kid says if there’s someone available he rates higher.

Everyone remembers it, it was ****ing annoying how long they took.

What I found interesting was that it was clearly a WA media news story about one of WA's brightest prospects, for a WA audience. They clearly didnt expect him to say hed rather play for Collingwood than Fremantle. If they knew then what they knew now they probably would have sent their film crew to another draft hopeful's house.

Pick 6 - whichever of the BIG 4 slides most likely Cerra.

Pick 38 - Petty. Shore up future of defence. Petty and McLarty should form a good partnership.

Pick 56 - Farrell. Quick skillful and underated imo. Unless somelike a Balta or Clavarino drifts.

Pick 61 - Brown
