Ed Richards is the grandson of the brother of a Collingwood legend. Half the top 10 picks probably have a better 6 degree of separation to Collingwood than "sentimental pick" Ed Richards.

Didn't his grandfather Ron Richards play 179 games for Collingwood?

I read Louie's book last weekend and the Pannam & Richards name should be respected.

He is being touted as a first round pick so I think it would be a "little" more than a sentimental pick jasper.

I still want a KPP at six I don't care about best available bullshit.

We have a massive hole in our list next year in that position IMO.

Twomey has him at 10... it's becoming less and less of a stretch

Hard to get a gauge on what is going on. A week ago people thought that Stephenson would be top 5 and Fogarty as late as pick 12 and now it appears the opposite. What’s difficult is that this may be speculation or there could be smoke to the fire. Remember that the Bont wasn’t tipped to go as high as he did until the last week before the draft

Two year apprenticeship and then he can come home.

Lock it in Eddie.

Pretty sure Ron Richards was Collingwood royalty in his own right. Not everyone can have the media profile that Lou had. So no, none of the top 10 picks are even remotely close to being as linked in to Collingwood as Richards is.

As we do with pace out wide.
Love to have the kid playing for us. In the old zoning days the Merritt’s and he would be. The club make sure of it. But now it will more and more happen that these kids will not get the chance.
So who at six as a kpp

I could actually see Shaw after he's been given his marching orders from GWS, putting on a dodgy wig and trying to weasel his way back on to a list under the guise of a new draftee.

I'm predicting Heath will get a hold of this doppelganger and do something hilarious with it.

I'd argue Richards is more likely than your average draftee to have a desire to get to the club he grew up supporting so I'm prepared to let others do the heavy lifting before we look to swoop in the coming seasons.

If he goes to Carlton at 10 our chances probably only increase.

No idea left at home because I don't follow the kids.

In 2018 we are relying on Goldsack, Dunne, Moore & Cox.........to be honest it doesnt fill me with confidence.

KPP round 6 & 38 & McLarty and pray they make it. IMO it is imperative we get this draft right.

In other words, you want both picks to be spent on KPPs? Well at least that simplifies the selections.

There's still the trade and free agency periods that we could use to target KPPs.

Well there’s not to many at six except Naughton, but by reports of others there will be at 38, unless there’s a bid on brown to stuff us.

So tgg have you picked which kids you don’t like?

Coffield was so yesterday, now it’s big Red the Ed
Anything Ed, better we pass.

We have one of those, more than enough to be going on with :p

This sums up what I find amusing about so much of this talk; players (who haven't played a game in months) are able to rise/fall dramatically in the 'rankings' in the space of a week or so!!
And each clubs boards probably haven't even changed much at alL

Agreed......but as they say a week is a long time in football.

I have been very bullish on us getting Lynch in 2018 but no one knows what will happen/change next year (unless your Hine ;) sorry couldn't resist).

My point is we need KPP now pick six is a perfect start unless Hine can guarantee the next Pendelbury or Buckley.

My nephew played school footy with Browny and I have watched two live games they played in together.......I would be very very surprised if he got a bid before 38.

l think you are right, but like the season just gone this is one different trade and draft time. Hard to tell, what will happen

I don't want Richards because I think it is a sentimental reach. I thought Coffield looked a bit fragile and wondered where he'd fit in to our needs. Fogarty is neither here nor there size-wise, and that applies to any of the other 190 cm utility types. I don't want anyone who has shown a susceptibility to injury, so won't be getting a boner over Bonar, nor would Stephenson appear in my short list. I liked the look of Murphy but agreed that he didn't seem to show more than marking and kicking ability in his highlights' reel. The remaining players are either most likely out of reach or KPPs. I would be tempted to pass and make some strong statements about shallow drafts and taking a united stand, appealing to other clubs to also boycott the draft and refuse to select beyond pick 5.

If you measure it on direct, day to day impact on the club over a long period of time then Ron probably has Lou beaten. Player, Reseves coach, chairman of selectors... who was it sitting beside Lethal in 1990...
