All Hine said was he thinks the first half dozen from our point of view will be "midfield/utility types".

Nothing about us drafting a utility, some may need a hearing check.
There's a bit more in that statement than you're allowing for.

If Hine has pick #6, and says the first six picks will be midfield/utility types, he's effectively saying we won't draft a tall, so that's the first piece of information he drops.

However, if you unpack it further, based on how the top end of the draft is being talked about, one can assume that the first half dozen picks are going to include Rayner, LDU, Cerra, Dow and Brayshaw. Those are all midfield types, which then means that for "utilities" to be a part of that top half dozen, it would either be at 6, or before.

So I think the notion that we're looking at Fogarty (or potentially even Stephenson or Coffield, for example), unless he goes ahead of our pick and one of the mids makes it through.

That's my reading between the lines.

Not sure NM are in a position to take a risk on Fog, I think they'll play it safe
Don’t know if they need him with Brown and Wood
But they need mids

They'd be stupid to take him over one of Rayner, Dow, LDU & Cerra.

I was on Fogarty early and went off him to go to others. Happy to jump back on if he is who we take. Honestly think he'll be like having JDG X 2

Sam Landsberger has us

6. COLLINGWOOD: DARCY FOGARTY (Glenelg)

192cm key forward

Big, powerful man with a beautiful kick should land at either the Kangas or Magpies. Mega talent was touted as No.1 at the start of the year before injuries hit. Collingwood needs goalkicking targets.

THE TWIST: If the Kangas plump for Fogarty, one of the premium midfielders will slip to Collingwood. That would almost certainly be the mature Brayshaw, who coach Nathan Buckley and captain Scott Pendlebury would equally love.

Yeah if there is any medical uncertainty and with only one decent pic i wouldn't risk it.
If it's down to us or the Tigers, the difference between pick 6 and three picks in the top 25, i can see the Tigers taking the risk. But no us.

Hine said we’ll take a utility at 6 and draft for needs later on.

Who are the utilities?
Fogarty
Brander
Murphy
Anyone else?
Brander is a key position and has fallen to the teens so probably just Fog Murph Coff Steph

Yep too risky and would appear to be a late change in plan. Don’t think that’s a good idea.

The Fog or a top 5 mid slider.

I think Dekka would be feeling the pressure a little more than usual, it would be a massive gamble and I don’t know if he’s willing to take it.

Have all these players had stints in the backline midfield and forward line.. we're not taking 5 mins here.. if they haven't.. how can you classify them all as utilities.

Seems pretty easy to me, if one of the top rated elite midfield boys slip then go for it. Otherwise Bonar, Naughton or Fog...happy days glad we didn’t trade the first pick

I don't do the classifying ;)

But all those players are around the 190/192cm mark and can play in a few positions

Think Stephenson is a definite no based on the hine clip.. although he looks the goods.. be great to have this bloke running amok on the wings and half forward line.. looks like a mix of WHE and Isaac Smith.. beautiful snap on the boundary line from 30-35 out.. very flexible and quick and precise decision maker from what I've seen.

Have they played in all spots though.. you can't speculate they're utilities if they haven't.. Everyone's a utility in effect if this is the case.

I don’t know about any of the kids. What I do know is I’m a gambling man. So based on reading this thread

I’m all aboard the Fogarty or Stephensen train.
