why do some insist that young players chosen in drafts should be a good physique???

He WILL grow up and out, and has an awesome set of skills to work with.

Great pick at 60.

Exactly, its not like 17-18 year old boys aren't going to stop growing or anything. So I take it you rate him? Sounds very exiting from what they were saying on the draft show before

The Orange Apple...

Pick 49 – SYD - Carl PETERSON (19yrs) 188cm/80kgs
Sydney showed an interest in Peterson last year but he didn’t nominate for the draft. He is an agile utility who has played in the ruck for Claremont paying testament to his vertical leap. Only recently fully relocated from Kunnunura, so his footy can only improve with a steady base to work from. He is very talented and could be anything.

Weaver...

54. Carl Peterson (Brisbane) – A 19 year old from country WA who was a late arrival in Perth, being invited down as part of the Clontarf Academy program. Missed most of last season with injury and OP but made an impressive 5-goal WAFL debut towards the end of the season. Despite being a year older than most and not coming through the Championship program he is unlikely to be missed. Did enough to win Claremont’s best first year player award. Could well be one who rises up the draft order and spoils many phantom drafts.

Would he be a ready made player?

He is 'over-age' (19 instead of 17-18). Also the flankers probably don't need the same bulk as the KP players and inside midfielders - so maybe.

Against that he only came to the WAFL this year from country WA so is pretty raw. Will need to build stamina and bulk.

I doubt he will play quickly (Oakley-Nicholls also played WAFL seniors).

He was very homesick this year so ill be interested to see how he handles the move

He wont be homesick. He is JON's best mate and is almost like his twin. His position as described by FJ is "sweeping back". This pick is a steal.

I kid u all not, this kid will be good.

I went down to Peel Thunder's home ground to watch Peel vs Claremont in the last H&A game of the WAFl season.

While i had my eyes glued to Gumby most of the time, one player stood out for Claremont and I made a point of keeping an eye on him when he got the ball after I checked his age and thought mmmmmmm... draft pick?

The kid was Petterson. He moves like a cheeter around the ground and was very quick with his hands. Very skinny, young and light weight, but he really impressed me with his style.

And I'm not just writing this to be a know all. I just saw his name on the RFC picks and his name rang a bell:thumbsu:

he's from the WA bush,so expect a Micheal Long introduction to Melbourne wheather when he gets to tigerland.

Good pick tiges:thumbsu: :)

It is only important to pick ready made players when you are down the bottom. The quick injection of new blood gives the fans something to get excited about and also encourages the older players to stay commited to the cause. I think that is what Essendon is attempting by drafting ready made guys this year. In Richmonds case, we have a surplus of exciting kids who are begining to prosper and who are making the fans lick there lips in excitment. We can afford to draft the skinny kids knowing to well that it will take 2-3 years for them to develope and doing so by the time we are likely to be pushing for a premiership.

Its all coming back to me now. When I checked his age with my WAFL record I thought, maybe to old to draft. But he was a stand out like alot of aboriginal boys are, specially when they are tallish and lanky, not short and stocky.

He glided and drifted around at will in the Claremont backline and killed anyone that tried to catch him. Just a quick baulk and he was off.

An Impressive young player for the Tiges.

One more thing about Petterson

That game,Claremont vs Peel Thunder, was attended by RFC's Greg Miller who was at the match to take a look at Claremont's Medhurst and Gardiner who had lined up for the Tigers.( and to have a look at Gumbleton and dream a little;) ). Medhurst kicked 6 and Gardiner did well, but he must have taken noticed Carl and thought "hang on"....or he was there only for the sole job of checking out CP.

interesting...

Good recruiting anyway by GM:thumbsu:

Sounds good...I am not gonna bag or praise anyone for who we have drafted today because 1) They need to play before judging them and 2) I have no idea about any of the drafted players

Nice work Nobby.
Hope the lad goes well. History shows there's always some good players picked up in the 50s and 60s.

90 cm vertical leap too. Also went up against Mark Seaby in the ruck in one game as their ruckman was injured, giving away about 17 cm, and beat him 4 out of 5 times.

Carl Peterson
Club-Claremont
Position- Wing/HFF/HBF/Ruck (only 188cm)
Honors-
Claremont Best First Year Player

Peterson has to be checked out for springs in his feet as this boy can jump! A boy from Kununurra who was scouted out by Sydney last year but was not able to nominate for the draft because of his location he was not able to play a game for a WAFL club last year. This year Peterson played a very solid year in the WAFL reserves and was played in most positions on the ground with about 4-5 weeks left in the season he was called up for his first game of league and debuted well without starring, the next week was a different story he kicked 5 goals and took some unbelievable marks. Has had a lot of interest from about 6-7 clubs and I don’t see why he wouldn’t he’s fast has decent endurance and an unbelievable leap. I can see him developing into a wingmen at AFL level will have the pace to blow away opponents and then the height and jump to push into the forward line and cause a real problem.

Verdict-
I think Peterson will go to either Sydney or Eagles with pick 49 or 50

Player Comparison- Brett Burton
