I’d like to think we have ranked our players with no bias as to the pick we have, it’s really not that difficult. I don’t share your fears on this one Windows.I genuinely worry this happens:
We unwittingly shuffle picks in our minds. Our recruiters I mean. Eg: we sell ourselves that Kemp is number 4, thinking he slides and we get a steal. Internally we write our boards up that way. Then when someone unexpectedly drops (like Young) they can’t take him.
I think all recruiters would find that hard not to do. Really hard.
Because the temptation would be to kid themselves that their pick was so amazing. Rather than just “look we had pick ten and you wouldn’t believe it, we ended up with the tenth best kid.”
Not saying it always happens. But it worries me. Especially as our friend SOS is more than a little stubborn.
Time will tell but somehting tells me we’ve decided it’s Kemp and it will be Kemp and kemp and nothing but kemp no matter what happens.
I only get that in regards to when we start lower down the order and in regards to later picks more generally. In this case, I fear the opposite, that we've rated a player highly and instead of backing ourselves in, we back out and go with the general consensus on draft day. I also fear that we reach for a small forward like Weightman, it would be like dropping the bundle.I genuinely worry this happens:

Could be on the money. There’s definitely something about him. Walked into the 2018 SANFL GF early to watch one of our clubs’ juniors in a Futures curtain raiser. 10 minutes in Pickett took a massive hanger and I shifted my focus to include him. He played a ripper. We are ideally suited for an emerging indigenous excitement machine to make an impact. We now have the best for him to learn from also. They’d know each other well already, possibly related with their families Port Lincoln connections.Hopefully we find a way to trade down and take Pickett

I like Pickett ... A LOT.
But so does everyone else it appears.
With Melbourne poised to strike with pick 10, we would have to blow everyone out of the water and take him with pick 9.
Have heard nothing to suggest this is a possibility so he probably won’t be in navy.
That would be something should Melbourne do that because they wouldn't be apportioning the consensus value to the player but simply their own in terms of needs and fit.
People may go on and say that they missed on a better player somewhere else, but that's not the point or at least shouldn't be.
If they've identified the player that adds more to the whole than another better-credentialed player, then do it.
The way i see Wednesday night playing out is Serong and Pickett still being on the board at our pick and I’d take one of them there.
Both tick the boxes for Carlton in my view and both play with a level of aggression that is suited to September.
From the Age draft article part 2I see Sydney as the club to trade with.
They are apparently into Serong and would love to bring him on board with pick 10 on the back of Flanders at pick 6.
This would really accelerate their rebuild.
They would be looking at bringing in Daniher for free next year and they have 2 academy boys they could pay for with later picks so wouldn’t mind turning their 1st next year into Serong this year.
The deal would also have to include an agreement that they trade Papley to us next year.
For Carlton :
This year we land one of Stephens/Taylor/Williams
Next year we land Papley with one of our 1sts as per the agreement with Sydney in the deal.
This still leaves us with 2 x 1sts to land another big fish, setting us up for a full scale assault on the top 4 in 2021 and beyond.

What shape is your club's list in heading to the AFL draft? And what players are in their sights?www.theage.com.au
"The big question then is who do the Swans turn to next? The smooth-kicking Hayden Young is likely to still be available with Melbourne increasingly favoured to select Luke Jackson at No. 3 ahead of Young however, industry sources were increasingly tipping the Swans to pick one of Gippsland midfielder/forward Sam Flanders or star small midfielder/forward Caleb Serong, both of whom would help replenish a somewhat ageing Sydney on-ball brigade"

er, say again?Just makes good sense doesn’t it.
The proposed deal/trade between Carlton and Sydney really works big time for both clubs and both clubs are professional enough to get it done and see it through.

"The Demons will have a suite of players at 10 to consider with Hayden Young a player they have been linked with, their desire to introduce good ball users obvious. Kysaiah Pickett would be attractive as a small forward although pick 10 could be too early and pick 28 too late, while Jeremy Sharp is an outside runner that could appeal."

Surely they’d take, Jackson along with Young if he’s available. That’d be a pretty good haul (do they have the opportunity to give up #28 and a ‘20 pick to get back in for Pickett?), or #10 could be split to still get Pickett + any others on their board in the teens/low 20’s.

I cacked in a public cafe in braybrook surrounded by startled consumers.........brilliant!Was at training and managed to snap a sneaky photo of the list management team working through some of these 'trade-down'or 'trade-up' scenarios for draft night -

I'll be worried if I was a Melbourne supporter, picking Jackson at 3 and Pickett at 10. Everyone is comparing Jackson to Grundy but at 198cm might not be big enough to compete as a full time ruckman and I would want to give up pick 3 for a back up ruckman. Pickett has a greand at highlight real and so did Wonaeamirri and Jurrah. It looks like Melbourne is looking at high risk high reward with this draft. I hope I'm wrong and these 2 become superstars.
umpire thread........But if windows doesn't want Seeing, neither do I!
Why not? Everyone else seems to have another on.damn I'd love another top 10 pick..........
You can trust Sos to get it right with one pick, unless he wants two.pre10y much.........

damn I'd love another top 10 pick..........
